Direct me to coding resources?

I keep reading about all the available coding hacks, but have no idea what equipment to get. I have a juiced up Macbook Pro, can I connect to that somehow?

All the cables I've seen have that dinosaur connection I can't even remember the name of, VGA or some such!

If this topic is "not so public", can somebody PM me?

Okay, so some poking around the forums has yielded the source for a cable Ebay ENET style cable. So now I'm down to ethernet on one side which I can handle no problem.

Question now is where to get the software needed?
