Von Dink?
He was the guy responsible for the "flame surface" nightmare. They were his drawings. Bangle simply approved them. Sorry, the 06-07-08 are the worst looking 3's in a while. The new 09 has redeemed the 3 series style. |

Another rumor of a V6 for the next M3... Nnnnnnnnooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
I'd love the new car to shed a lot of weight too, but if the F30 is going to use a carry-over chassis, I doubt any significant weight-loss is on the cards. When is Gordon Murray bringing out his next car? I think BMW would do well collaborating with him to get their cars on any worthwhile weight-loss program/ |

not really the new 3 series will debut in the summer of 2011 for a 2012 model which is approaching rapidly, it's not like a face lift where they do small things there redesigning the entire car from interior to exterior and engine which i assume takes a lot of time

Working towards the 34mpg CAFE is not easy, it will require USA car-culture to move towards a more Euro perspective.
If the Z2 is being designed as a 1k Kilo car and is based on some major overlaps w/ the F30, I don't see why the 4 cyl versions of the 3 series couldn't be close to 1.3k Kilos. That would be very exciting.

there are so many loopholes in Comrade Obama's CAFE standards, that BMW won't have to worry about 39mpg mandate for cars. it's been reported for the last couple of days that the loopholes are huge.
this car won't be any smaller than the current E90. reports already have it both wider and longer than the current e90.

^ hence the odd fender flares, there was a next gen 1er under a current gen 1er body a while back, same fender flare application meaning it will be wider too...
lol @ this dude, think out of the box braa, the subframe/suspension/drivetrain are F30 while what you see (what the spy-photos show) is a jacked up e90 (fender flares, weird roof, etc). Like I said above, there was a 5-dr 1er hatch with a similar fender flare treatment awhile back, most likely the next 1er subframe, suspension, drivetrain under the current 1er body...

When BMW announced that the S65 was to weight at least 50 lbs lighter than the S54, people started to get all exited about the new E9X M3 being lighter than the porky E46 M3. Well, guess what? The E9X M3 is about 150 lbs HEAVIER than the E46 M3, despite all the advanced aluminum subframe and suspension parts. HEAVIER. Get used to it. No subsequent generation BMW has EVER weighed less than its predecessor. Believe you me, if the next generation 3 series comes in weighing "only" 3,500 lbs everyone should rejoice. Heck even the light-weight 128i weighed more than the E46 330i. Go figure. |

And what if I told you that it cost me around $24,000 NEW? If you're looking for a sporty sedan in the 3,000 lbs range with decent performance, stop looking at BMWs. It ain't going to ever happen again. |

but theres nothing unusual with the shark fin missing i dont think a lot of 3s that i have seen in germany (actually most of them) do not have fins... i don't really like the missing fin, but most of my friends do. I like the whole shark image |

Von D created the "flame surfacing" idea, and the E90 design. "Bangled" came along because ultimately he was responsible for approving the design. My comments are also about the sedan. The "new" 3 coupe was a nice looking piece from the get go. The new 3 sedan changes make it look MUCH better though. I think the changes if put on the coupe will give the coupes some needed "muscle" in appearance. The coupes are nice, but the last 1/3 of the car going towards the rear has too much Toyota in it. It's too straight and too thin. Nice overall, but in the end, I choose the 135i. I know, I know a lot of people don't like the look. I too thought it odd in pictures. But, when I saw it in real life 3D, it looked really cool. Kinda brash, youthful, not completely refined shape. I think it'll be fun to drive it for a few years. By then the new 1 and freshened coupes should be ready. Then we'll see. |
