2013 F30 335IX with JB4 Transmission Slipping (8AT)

I am having an issue 2013 F30 335 with 8 speed sport tranny. I am about 1000 miles into the tune (JB4). I have ER dp and am running map 5 (beta map) with 100octane on my F30 with ZF8 ... ran into my first slippage today.

Tranny under full load cannot really take the torque. I have been driving a lot and the power is amazing. This morning I went to shift from 1st to 2nd under heavy throttle and the whole car jolted and slowly shifted into the next gear .. it happen again on shift from 2nd to 3rd... car can be felt slipping.

After I turned the JB off .. it didn't happen again. Then I turned it back on and boom it slipped again. IT seems that I cannot shift from like 3k to 6k under heavy throttle or else the car slips pretty badly. The torque is great and I love this tune -- just haven't heard of anyone else having problems. Of course this is happening to me lol ...

I am still under warranty though ... if this continues I will remove tune and dp and go in .. maybe the fluid is low or something. I do have a blown speaker and am approaching the 10k mile service (oil change). If anything I will have to retire the JB4. Life will be boring if that is the case.... maybe I will order the new M3.

ANYONE ELSE experiencing rough shifts or abrupt and powersucking shifts that are slow and hesitating?

Is there anyway to upgrade the clutch packs in the ZF8 to increase the amount of torque they could handle?

The transmission isn't really rated beyond 335 lbs tq, which you're probably well past, so I'm not surprised.

I'm sure you could swap over clutch packs from a diesel ZF 8 spd tranny...would cost you though.

Yes, I am not surprised either. I read a good deal about the transmission and its limits before I ordered the tune. I understand it was risky but I also did not find one report of any problems with the ZF and the JB4 or any tune for that matter. I am responsible though.

Replacing clutch packs sounds costly .. I will see if it is possible and get a quote for it. I am guessing around >$1000.

Hmm I'm 4000milea with jb4 and over 1000miles fbo and the only thing I see is delay on shift from 1st to second at woot ... But it's not slippage and happens very rare ..

I've not heard of this issue before. I know of some people with Stage 1 and JB4 tunes without issue.

Being an xDrive doesn't help due to the additional strain on the transmission to send power to all four wheels.

Terry posted a new update for map 5 a few days ago. Not sure if this will make a difference or not.

Dealer ran diagnostics and only checked computer for issues. They reset transmission characteristics … I forget the formal name but it deals adaptation to the driver.

Problem is still there but only in early like 1-3 gears. I have learned not to shift at full throttle from 3500rpm to 5500rpm. Shifting at or after 5500rpm results in no slip .. really odd but basically the dealer reported no issues.

I wonder what would have happen if they checked the fluid or clutch pack. I have worked around it. Still have JB4, running map 5 .. right now no dp still .. will put it on tomorrow morning probably.

Yes, less wheelspin will put more strain on the transmission. Personally, I'll stick with MPPK - xDrive, N55 w/ MPPK and the 8 AT is a brilliant drivetrain.

It's amazing that people put these GARBAGE products on a perfectly designed BMW and then wonder why it went south so quick.....

I wouldn't call it a garbage product, the product offers a temporary solution to a temporary problem, sooner or later we will get a proper flash... secondly I don't think the 3 series is perfectly designed

So a product is garbage because it's causing the engine to produce more torque than the factory transmission can handle, causing it to slip?

Cool story. You know a lot. Please teach us more.

A JB4 is nothing close to a "temporary solution," and quit dreaming...no one will be able to release a flash for these cars.

also have a 335i x-drive but 6 speed MT Map 7 50/50 e85, 4k miles no problems. Just difficult to shift from 1st to 2nd under full throttle, seems like the syncros can't keep up

I think something is wrong with your gearbox. You can as well limit boost in jb4 for gear 1 and 2. I have that set to 12 and 14 psi. In the other gears i have run upto 20 psi (pure turbo upgrade) without any signs of slippage.

Only difference is i dont have x drive.
