iPhone vs Android - 2015 BMW 238i
No, this isn't an "I love this, everyhting else sucks" post
I've been an Android user for a long time. I keep hearing how BMW works better with an iPhone. My question is, in a 2015 BMW F-series, what, if anything, would I gain in functionality by switching to an iPhone? I have a feeling 2015 is too old for full CarPlay functionality. And do I need to do anything special other than connect to get whatever functionality might exist? Thanks. |

I believe with a 2015, you'll need a MMI box to add either carplay or android auto. So it probably won't really matter. I know I had to do an MMI box for my wife's 2015 X5.
I have a 2019 440 which has carplay on it, but I have an android phone, so it's not compatible. There is an app called AAIdrive that will allow an android phone to send notifications and spotify album artwork to your car which is a nice addition. I'm still debating whether I want to add an MMI box to my car to get android auto. I had it on my last car (aftermarket android headunit in a 2015 WRX) so its a bit tough going back to not having it.
