Estoril Blue paint caused 8 week delay

Just heard from my dealer that my week 1 delivery went to week 8, because bmw has shortage os Estoril Blue paint. He said that if I change the color to anything else, it will go to production next week. Not what I wanted to hear

That's a new one.

You trust your dealer? Have you confirm this with anyone else?

+1

I also heard mcdonalds ran out of sesame buns for the big mac, so youll need to buy quarter pounders for now or wait till new supplies come.

how does a company whose soul purpose is to create cars with paint on them run out of one of the main products they use?

Yeah, I trust him. He said that there was also a shortage of some sparkling gray metallic paint for 5-series when Japan was hit by tsunami, but he has not seen like this happen before. Told me that car had a production status code for ok, and all the sudden it went to this status of waiting something. I've seen screenshot of production number, status etc and bmw assigned production week, so I'm sure he's talking the truth here.

Car makers depend on suppliers for parts. BMW doesnt make every component in the car. If there's a supply problem then there's a production delay. There was a M Sport brake shortage recently that delayed my car.

I completely understand that. I deal with manufacturers all the time in the past. they have to paint, powder coat, and do much more. the one thing they say is that supply is their lifeline even though they are not large like bmw. if they don't have enough supply which is like seeing a four leaf clover (which can happen), it doesn't take them more than a few days to get the supply made and shipped to them. mind you these are small companies which doesn't command the respect bmw would if bmw asked for more supply.

hence, I am no stranger to that effect, but this is not a rare color nor is it a new color. its an on going color that has been made for the last couple of years (that I am aware of). it just seems very strange that a large company would not have enough material to make this color. there is a manager for everything, these managers can forecast things that will and can happen. in addition its weird that it would take more than a week to obtain the needed supply. in this case he states 8 weeks out.

obviously you really cant do anything more about it other than to wait.
just out of curiosity, is there a report from the supplier stating that this somewhere we all can find?

I contacted BMW country importer directly, and they contacted BMW nordic sales office in Sweden, and I got back the same message. Some pigment of that estoril blue color is out and causes the delay. Got a small discount due the delay. So seems pretty legit.

Maybe the 8 week delay is caused of missing the original production slot, not actual paint outage.

there you go.
when someone gets a discount then its legit in my books. companies don't give out discounts randomly.

Might be an opportunity to get a color that isn't normally available on the M Sport.

I second this, try and opt for individual paint at their cost.

Good point. Went through the colors again, but I still think Estoril Blue is simply the best color

And.. In configurator I cant see option for "Pure Metal Silver". That I could choose over estoril blue
