I had an Oct-2013 build F31 with CA and the tailgate always opened with the foot-swipe method, regardless of whether the car was locked or unlocked at the time.

I now have a Feb-2014 build F31 and the foot-swipe only works if the car is unlocked. The antennae at the rear car seem to work because CA to open the tailgate via the normal rubber release-switch above the number plate works fine. Seems more like a software issue to me than a hardware one, due to this fact.

Any ideas?

Just a guess...is the lock button in the glove box engaged?

I don't have that switch (it's deleted in certain markets)...

dont do the swipe motion
kick up and lower foot quickly and that opens it for me

That did it They must have changed the software between these two builds to reduce the chance of nuisance opening by requiring a more directed motion. Thanks!

interesting, does anyone have any issue that the boot accidentally open and bloody annoying mirror closing/opening automatically during your car wash when the water hits the front windows/handles and rear bumper? yes the key is in my pocket, mirror folding all the times but occasionally open the boat, pissed me off, lucky not in any contactless car wash.

To avoid this i always wash my car with key FOB in the car.
