Can we get rid of the 37 degree warning

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Just wondering if there is a way to get rid of this warning I have bimmercode and protool but haven't seen a spot for it. Just annoying as hell they use the same noise as if something is wrong with your car and goes off at the most inopportune times.

Safety feature. No way to disable. Learn to live with it - it is on every other car as well.

BimmerCode absolutely allows one to disable safety features.

Ive disabled all dash warnings and chimes related to seat belt. Also able to change fuel level warning… both safety features.

I haven't messed with the temp warning but see no reason why this cant be adjusted as well. Will try and have a look today…

Between my and wifes past/current vehicles:

2001 Nissan Xterra - no warning
2006 Mazda 3 - no warning
2006 Nissan Xterra - no warning
2009 Mazda 3 - no warning
2013 Ford Flex Ecoboost - no warning
2019 Mini Countryman - 1st car we've owned with the warning
2017 BMW 340i - 2nd car with the warning

Maybe here in North America it's not required?

BMW have definitely included this warning for years.

From 1995... E39

Ice warning
If the outside temperature drops to approx +37.5 7 (+3 6), a warning signal sounds and the display flashes briefly.
Also had it in VW in the 1990's.

I agree that the chime can be a pain. Wish I could change it to a different sound. But I get black ice in my area and below 37 degrees Fahrenheit is about when black ice begins to form on bridges and overpasses. So the warning isn't a bad thing

I noticed that you have a Wagner EVO2. Do you have any logs, say from 1st to 4th gears that show IATs? If not, would you please collect one? I'm trying to collect IAT logs for various Intercoolers. Thanks!

Could very well be it.
I have had it on every car I have owned, manufactured from 2000 onwards. All European brands (VW, Skoda, Audi, BMW).

I find it quite useful actually as one very often isn't aware of the changing environment. It helps me a lot e.g. during mountain journeys to alert me when to expect icing.

My 2002 model year E46 330 had the warning. So at least for bmw it has been on the cars for a while. I only see it half a dozen to a dozen times a year. Now if it had the "hotter than hades" chime of over 100 then yes, I would definitely want to get rid of that chime, since I would see it 4-5 months a year (or so it seems).

Yes I have a log from 3rd through 4th, I feel it works rather well I may need to take it out and clean all the leaves and such out its been a min and they love to collect in there. I am adding meth here in the next few weeks and will be turning up the boost to 24psi and timing will go from 4-5 to closer to 10-11

That's cool! Do you have a log that shows IATs on your Wagner EVO2?

BMW have had this at least going back 30+ years. My 92 e34/2 had it.
It’s nice.

It only goes off when temp drops to 37 or less, so unless you have a day where it is 37.5 and varies back and forth it should only go off one time.

"Nice" has straight correlation to where you live. This is not "nice" in Finland when it goes off every day for 6 months with no ability to turn it off. Heart stops every time the gong comes on.

Sounds like a personal problem if your heart stops because you hear a 37 degree warning sound.

Dismiss it and move along with your drive like everyone else has done for 3+ decades… leave us alone, BMW knows what they’re doing.

Just because it doesn't inconvenience you, doesn't mean it's not a problem for others who would like the option for it to be turned off. It seems like it's one of the only ones that people have yet to figure out. Fact of the matter is, it's the same gong sound for actual problems, and warnings like this, which makes it a bit dull to see every day for over 180 days a year.

I don't understand what "leave us alone, BMW knows what they’re doing." has anything to do with this. Especially since I'm also here looking for information like the original poster. I don't need to be ridiculed for wanting something turned off that is a major inconvenience in my country where everyone knows to be careful during minus Celsius degrees. We live and breathe winter, use winter tires and know how to drive a car even in winter times. I don't need a chime to tell me what I already know.
