Got into a wreck...

So I was hit by a Toyota suv in the front left of my car, and I need opinions on wether it will be totaled or not.... It needs a complete new front end, Both headlights hood bumper and both fenders... the front left suspension is completely snapped off, the wheel pretty much fell off the car when it was towed away. None of the airbags deployed. I am insured through nation-wide. It is a 2012 and has 90k miles.. Yes, BTW I was at fault here, I pulled out infront of someone because my passenger was distracting me.

My vote it totalled especially with that severe suspension damage

You don't need to bump your thread 4 minutes after posting rest assured it will be seen

That is tragic, so sorry to see! I had a front end collision with my X5 years ago. The car was about 2 years old. The damage to replace was around $15K for the whole front bumper, xenon headlight enclosures, and hood but thankfully the engine was not damaged and still drove. Insurance paid for it all and did not attempt to have the car totaled. So you probably have a good shot at getting it covered and repaired, especially if insurance rules you not at fault. I think the baseline for totaling is that the repair cost has to exceed 50% of the value.

Unfortunately after any front end collision the repair work needed to install a new bumper and repair any structural damage to the welds between the frame and chassis can affect the overall alignment and handling of the vehicle.

Hmm, Thats expensive for just a hood bumper and headlights.. But I hope they total mine, can't wait 3 months for the repairs like they said it would take.

The way insurance sees it is if the total cost of repairs is within reason of your cars value or above your cars value to deem it totaled.

You can definitely get a pretty good estimate whether they will total or not.

I got sideswiped on the highway about 3 months ago. I had 6k on the odo and the dude swiped my entire passenger side. I needed fenders, doors, etc and the total was still under 8k. My best guess is NO, it's not totaled if the frame is good.

Link to one pic from my accident - https://1drv.ms/i/s!AkHKmnTUFIO1gsd7LLpGotT3F0GfGA

I just saw you have 90k and it's a 2012....Close call man, every insurance company is different but mine stops before 75%, some stop towards the 50% mark.

Based on the age of the I think it probably will be totaled. Repairs will likely exceed 60% of the car's value.

What do they do with totaled cars? This one has all major components good. If sold by parts it may cost more than trade-in w/o accident, I think....

The insurance company will likely sell it to a scrapper like LKQ etc and they'll part out the car via auctions and other methods.

Just to add to your statement; they will also sell off these cars to public auctions such as Copart and SalvageBid. I'm always looking there, lol.

This stinks! Sorry! Hopefully your insurance knows you have a modified car and doesn't cause a pain in the ass

I'm always confused why people post pictures of their rides like this, and then ask "do you think it will be totaled?" or "how much do you think this will cost?" Call your insurance, they'll tell you if it's repairable or not. Yeh, it sucks that you had a wreck, as long as everyone is ok, it's just a car, so get it fixed.

So what if everyone here says "Sure, it's a writeoff" but your insurance says "Nope, $8k, we'll fix it"? I just don't get it.....

They're just opinions and advise. Don't like it, then don't post. I know when my e90 was written off I appreciated the opinions and advise members shared. Could be fixed.. could be a write off. When OP shares an update we'll end up noting repair advise or if it's totalled, how to get as much as possible from insurance

I got into an accident with my 2015 328 over the summer with only 10k on my car I was hit in a very similar way to you while pulling out of a parking lot into a two lane road and it was also my fault (guy in the lane closest to me waved me out and I didn't see the person approaching fast in the second lane so it was too late by the time I pulled out). After a couple weeks with my dealership taking it apart and figuring out cost of repairs, they determined that my frame was bent and the would need to replace the front end like yours. I think the repair estimate was close to $28,000 and it would have taken about 2-3 months, so I nudged my insurance in the direction of totaling it. In my state, the damage needed to be 70 or 75% of the car's value and we were in the high 60s, but since I kind of requested that they total it, they did.

I ended up with a 340 for the same monthly payment as my 328 by some miracle. In the end it's just a car and you can always replace and upgrade!

Well, I didn't want to say it before, but now that it's totaled, I can say that I hope they just total your car. It's never going to be the same especially if the suspension is all thrashed. I was also going to say that an impact that hard to do that kind of damage to your suspension would likely end up in frame damage as well. Tell your passengers to STFU next time!!

All kidding aside, at least no one was hurt and now you get to enjoy a new car... with a higher insurance premium

Hopefully you won't get hit with the insurance premium like I did. I got into 3 accidents and now I pay a fortune even though 2 weren't my fault.

My point is randomly staring at pictures over the internet doesn't mean anything. It's up to the insurance adjuster to dictate the amount of the repairs, and if the car is written off. Whatever us lurkers on the web say means nothing.

It'll buff right out.........

jokes aside...glad the OP and passenger were okay...and I agree...i'd rather have it totaled...there's always something that's 'different' even after quality repairs...mental or not..
