I don't understand why the induction setup would have an impact on how the crankcase is cast. I could see a different head perhaps, but a different block?

Nice. Great detailed description.
What about price? Why can't they change the wheels? These wheels look good on 7. But 3 needs something sporty, lesser spokes. |

What is interesting is even with all that torque it is still slower then c 63 .
0-200 quoted is 14 sec. while AMG does it in 13.3. Obviously 0-250 will be even worse. http://fastestlaps.com/cars/mercedes...e_package.html |

However, the Alpina philosophy differs quite a bit from M GmbH (or AMG for that matter). Alpina offers exclusivity, comfort and speed, and the M's are pure performance cars. And the wheels are an evolution of the classic 20 spoke wheels they have been using since the 1960ies. I am a huge fan of Alpina, and I think Alpina is all about tradition and a long history with BMW, and an Alpina is a finished product from the factory - an M3 with BBS wheels and Brembos and other aftermarket stuff is just cool, but an Alpina with other wheels and spoilers is sacrilege

Well, it seems that Alpina fixed the N55 engine for BMW. The made it twin-turbo, and added a forged crankshaft. The M3 engine will probably be very similar to this engine, except for the air-to-air intercooler which is replaced with an water-to-air intercooler.

First, if straight line performance is all you are looking for, look at other brands. Second, the MB has more cylinders (8), more capacity (6.2 L), more HP, and the same amount of torque (600 Nm). If this Alpina with a 6 cylinder 3.0L does 0-200 in only .7 seconds slower, then that is just stunning for the Alpina. |

It was just my opinion, not a fan of those wheels :-) Apart from the Alpina performance and comfort, one thing I really appreciate is Alpina doesnt deface BMW like Hamman and other body kit makers do. It keeps the car elegant and beautiful. Well, when you are above 60k price range, 3k doesnt matter much |

The engine is great in any case, Alpina giving the N55 back what was taken away from it (i.e. one turbocharger). This is the real successor to the N54 engine. Alpina_B3_Lux

..and the 3k is easily lost in adding extras; all the usual BMW-stuff and of course Alpina-blue metallic €2180 and the Lavallina full-leather interior for €10400

that's incredible though new crank, crank case, twin turbo setup i wonder what size... TD03 like the N54 or something a bit more reliable/larger?. i'm assuming so as 410crank hp would push them a bit.. lucky F30 B3 owners if someone decides to make a tune, should be able to get some VERY nice numbers |
