M Sport brakes: Brake dust that excessive on 442m orbit grey wheels??

Can anyone shed light on this? Is the brake dust off the M Sport brakes that excessive on 442m orbit grey wheels?

The wheels are pretty dark but polished on the surface. I'm pretty sure that's why they force you to get them instead of the regular 44m wheels. The orbit Grey likely won't show the dust as much.

Is this true? And if so, does the polished surface maintain its luster after a week of driving?

I use armor all wheel protectant, but I've had the rims on now for months. Still shiny. I did put a coat of wax on them too while they were off for winter.

And they look amazing.

Hmmm I wonder how they'd hold up for two weeks without a wash, without the Armor All or wax. Though I admire your level of care.

Excessive enough to bother you? Maybe. For anyone else to notice? No.

A good wax/sealant will last a good long time and make it super easy to just spray off (I use a foam cannon) dust. Take the time to wax/seal the wheels when you get it and then you're good for months.

And yeah, will YOU notice the dust? Yes, definitely. Will it be noticeable to anyone but an enthusiast? No.

In case anyone else is interested, I found this picture. Definitely darkens and loses some luster.

TOP is DIRTY
BOTTOM is CLEAN

Plan on dust. When you're out of warranty you can ditch the Euro pads for those which go on the M-Sport line/M Performance Brake Kit.

I guarantee you the color selection of the wheels has nothing to do with brake dust. Wheel wax is the best investment you could ever make if you're bothered by brake dust build-up. I have 27k on my M Sport and my wheels are like brand new - the faces AND the inside of the barrels.

OP, I would definitely expect it to dust a great deal. The 18s on my F80 are similar color and they were very dirty after just 4 days of ownership. I believe (but am not sure) the caliper/pad is similar for the F80 and F3X m sport brakes

You may not want that brake option if low dust is important to you. I have the base brakes on my 2013 335 and they dust very little.

Whatever you get, just use wheel wax/sealant. Most brands work pretty well. I've recently had good luck with armor all of all things, and it's cheap. Instead of getting dust build up every few days, you should be able to go a few weeks with one of these products properly applied.

Thank you everyone for your replies. I think the armor all is the way to combat this.

As many have said already, clean them and put a good sealant on your wheels.

Clean-up is so much easier that way.

Does the armor all need to be applied every time you get a car wash? Or does it withstand a few washes?

The photos are a bit misleading. The second photo is much darker all around in the lower half of the photo. Look at the ground next to the car.

Right, but that would only make the bottom (clean) one even shinier...

I have a 2015 435 with 442m orbit grey and m-sport brakes. Yes, the dust is (was) obnoxious. I waxed the rims when new and that didn't make much if any difference. I now use Armor All Wheel Protectant and go up to four weeks without washing. There will be some brake dust powder piles but 99% of the outside rim remains spotless and 80% of the inside looks like new. I live in the desert so rain forcing a car wash is rarely an issue; brake dust is what had me washing every week, but no more!

Just change the pads no need to wait for the warranty. Keep in mind though that less dust usually means more rotor wear.

As was said a good coat of wax will cut down on what sticks. I personally just use Sonax wheel cleaner, but recently swapped pads to even dustier ones lol Hawk Street Race so I'm probably going to give the wheels a good wax the next time I clean them.

I swapped the OEM pads with Centric and the excessive dust (to me) was gone.
