I just checked my 2013 and it went into production yesterday, estimated completion date of 7/5. Wasn't supposed to go until week 27 (7/2-7/8).

There happens to be A LOT more 328i allocations than 335i at first for the 2013, almost 5:1 ratio from what I've seen.

The biggest dealership in LA for example has 40+ 328i's for July production and only 3-4 335i's.

Another dealer has 10-15 328i's, and 6 335i's.

The 335i is much less popular by default (most 3 series consumers prefer the lessor model). So while it seems BMW is skimping on 335i's, the ratio makes sense. It's the same with the ActiveHybrid 3, there's (currently) only a few per month allocated to dealers.


The dealer trade route is a total pain from the dealer's perspective. It is much easier for them to wait on a new allocation set of production #s, especially if they already have your signature. It requires a healthy relationship with the regional manager who assigns allocations; and even then it's still a maybe as to if another dealer will spend the time to do it and manage the whole situation.

Doesn't hurt to ask, though.

I'm a return customer at my dealer, and they knew I really wanted to get my 2013 order in.
The sales manager actually did a dealer trade with a dealership that wanted one of his lot cars, so we took a 335 allocation, and did my order.

My order showed a production of "week 27", which is right around the week of July 4th.
But, some orders have already started production.
I emailed my CA and he said mine was not yet in production.
Of course that could change quickly.

I'm still deciding if I want to switch color to Melborne red w/black, instead of my original silver w/red, 335i Msport.
I'm about ready to flip a coin, cause I really can't decide!
I love the red leather, I have it in my 135i.
But, my last 4 cars have been silver or a shade of gray.
I'm thinking I really need to add some color to my color MO.

My birthday is also on 12 June but probably many years earlier. I placed MY13 328xi M Sport order prior to BMW taking orders so had to wait a bit to get the production number. The start week given was week 27 but have received notice the car was started on 25 Jun at 7:45 AM with production ending on 5 Jul. Guess it takes them a couple of days longer to do it right or they need the extra two days to figure either how to put the all wheel drive in or the different body work on.

For the US X drive buyers the EPA and CARB have not yet approved them so there could be a delay in releasing them from the port of entry for delivery if not approved by the time they arrive.

Thanks for the info. I should really ask my CA about this...can't just wait till the end of July..

i was in the same situation.
Alpine White & Coral Red Vs Vent Beige.. pretty tough to make a final call but chose the beige over red because...

1. i love BMW's coral red but on all four seats were too much for me..
2. I didn't like those black plastics on coral red...
3. AW & VB is rarer
4. someone told me this...."if you'd like to pick up whores, go with red. but if you'd like to meet a girl worth to keeping for, go with beige." I LOLed. Even it's not completely true, I understood what the person was trying to say. Don't get me wrong. I still love coral red.

Are you selling your 135? If so, i'd go with silver and red combo. If you are going to keep both cars, go with diff color. how about that?

I've been leasing my past 4 cars. LOVE it.
So the 135i goes back to the dealer when my 335i Msport arrives.
Silver w/red is an awesome combo, but my last 3 cars were silver or some lighter shade of gray. I have the red in my 135i so I decided to change it up and had my CA change to Melbourne red w/black leather.
It'll look sweet with the Msport cosmetics.

BTW, even though my order went in to BMW on 6/11, my production number is later, it's 39364XX. That explains why I've got week 30 production even though initially is showed week 27.
From what I've seen in these posts, nearly everyone got a week 27 build for 2013 orders.
I think production number dictates when your car will be built rather than the estimated date.
After all, BMW can't build every order in the same 1st week of July.

That's exactly what happened in my situation as well!

My dealer had 6 335i allocations, but a Korean business ordered them all as fleet/share vehicles for employees that travel to Los Angeles for work. I called the dealer the night before I went in and of course it happened to be an hour or two before the business/fleet deal - so they had originally reassured me they had plenty of 335i slots available.

So they went out of their way to grab an allocation the next day because when I walked into the dealership 12 hours later they were all sold out It was pretty cool how it worked out.

I think you made a great choice! Red and Black combo will absolutely look amazing with Msport cosmetics. Don't forget to add the m performance black kidney grills!

when did you add your vehicle? when i did mine it did not show up immediately. within 24 hours it was there and had a track link on the left

After the production number has been assigned, how long does it take for the production number to be recognized on BMWUSA.com --> MyBMW?

My 2013 335i xDrive is now in 150 - Production Started status as of 11/26/2012 in South Africa. Cannot add it as my vehicle yet.
