Datalog and check boost levels on the other maps

Anyone having issues with the app freezing when trying to stop logging and view/save the data? I'm using Windows 10 on a Surface Pro 4. I spoke to Terry and he hasn't experienced it before. I'm going to try another laptop but wanted to check. The app works fine with everything else.

Hi - Do you (or anyone else) have some before/after pics with the engine cover off to illustrate wire routing? I'm really nervous about routing wires over especially hot areas, or where there are moving parts by wiper assy or where it will interfere with putting covers back on, or where it might rub insulation off through vibration, etc.

Would love to have the peace of mind of routing the cables exactly the way someone else did to know there were no problems.

(Tried searching but the 340-specific stuff kind of gets lost in the noise with all of the 335 posts..)

Thanks in advance!

Yes - have looked closely at that, and I feel like I know where to plug/unplug cables - thanks.

What I'm asking is if there are any pictures showing where/how the cables get from the back corner where the jb4 unit resides to the front locations where the connectors plug into stock connectors. Does that make sense?

This picture shows the rainbow wires going under the rubber between the two compartments. Note: Your kit's wires have a black plastic sleeve.

OK - I see that now. Do folks cable tie the sleeve to anything to get it over to the other side and hold it in place? Just looking for some guidance on those little things...

I found that once you route the cables they are is already very secured. The only thing that was loose was the JB4 box itself. But after using a zip-tie to hold the Bluetooth kit to the JB4 box, it sit very snuggly in that compartment.

If you are getting nervous about routing these cables, which frankly looks pretty simple to me, then you should consider whether you have enough DIYer in your blood to be comfortable with running a JB4 on such a new car. Others may disagree, but from what I've seen you have to be prepared to tinker and deal with some issues. If you are comfortable it's a great option with tons of flexibility. If not, it could be stressful.

And again, as far as the install with a 6MT you should be worrying about the OBD cable, especially if you plan to take this out before dealer visits. I took the cowls and knee bolster off and for my skill level it looked like a huge pain, not something I'd want to do more than once.

Yeah - I'm wondering too if I have the intestinal fortitude to do this. I don't mind tinkering a little, but I've done too many things where I get halfway to the finish line only to wish I'd done a little more research before I started - not afraid of running wires, just looking for a visual reference that someone has lived with for a while without any trouble.

Manual transmission lagging/bogging issues

I currently have the jb4 on my manual transmission f30 335i. Me and a friend who has a m235i with the same set up, ER downpipe and jb4 have always had shifting issues, where if you shift too fast the tune completely falls on its face and bogs. Last time i researched this issue for the n55 their was no resolve yet.

Does anyone know if the b58 with manual transmission has the same issue with the Jb4? I was very pleased with the power gains on my n55 but it has been disappointing that I have to slow my shifts down so that the car doesn't bog and lose power.

Can't really comment because I have an auto transmission, but I haven't experienced any of that. I can only assume it's because something is sensing the extra power and the engine is trying to protect itself by bogging down? Maybe it's built into the DME as a means to protect the clutch? Sort of like how the MPPK makes less torque on the manual's vs auto's due to clutch preservation.

Yeah, another friend of mine has the same set up but with auto and doesn't have any problems, though he says the paddles don't work as well as the center shift for manual shifting when the jb4 is on. It seems to be a manual problem only. I know other people with manual had the same issue. I would possibly consider the MPPK over the jb4 on the 340i if I decided to get another manual just for this reason. It won't be as fast but at least i'll be able to shift fast without the car bogging.

If you have manual trans shift bog you'd want to post a log to verify what type it is. The most common cause is shifting too fast where RPMs go up when the clutch is in. This tells the DME to revert to low torque mode for a second or two.

I noticed that the product page doesn't mention "beta" anywhere now.

http://burgertuning.com/B58_JB4_bmw_...nce_tuner.html

Is this thing now considered an official product, not beta?
