Coding for engine replacement
I am in the process of swapping out my engine/turbo after a failure and am wondering if anybody could talk me through the programing needed after the swap. I have ISTA and it says the following:
__________________________________________________ ___________ After replacement of the engine or cylinder head: if necessary, reprogram/encode DME. Read out I level of the vehicle and proceed accordingly. It is imperative to observe PUMA measure 62634754 For further information, see the EPC (electronic Parts Catalog) __________________________________________________ ___________ I dont have the engine quite back in the car yet but am just preparing for what needs to be done on the programing and coding side after it is complete. I assume some of the things to think about are coding the injectors and resetting the VANOS adaptations. I replaced the turbo and wastegate so (came as one unit) so I don't know if the wastegate needs to be set or not. My assumption is that since it came all together it should be good to go.

If your replace your engine your must also program the ISN of the new ecu to the FEM. This requires special tools which are quite expensive, i would recommend to look for someone to do it for you. After that run service plan for engine replacement and reset different adaptations related to the engine.

By ECU, do you mean the DME? I haven't replaced anything but the engine so why would that programming need to be done?

Yeah.
If you want to keep your original DME then programming the ISN isn't necessary. Just change the injector coding and reset adaptations using ista |

Just so anyone reading can reference, I used the service function in ISTA to reset all adaptations. It will do it all at the same time. Also used the startup oil circuit function to prime the turbo and engine. Car started on the first try, topped off coolant and did the bleed procedures and it has been running great for 260 miles so far. When it first started up it was a little rough but as the computer did it's work it all smoothed out.

How did you program the injectors? Did you use the original ecu? |

Sorry I didn't see this post before. I don't remember the details but the injectors didn't need to be programmed. Pretty sure the older engines do but the B58 doesn't need it. I did use all original ECU and everything. Only replaced the turbo and long block.
