Baltimore VPC Info?
So doesn't look like anyone was on the same boat (Parsifal) as mine in a post I sent out to the forum earlier. (Reposting this under a diff thread title)
I tracked it and it arrived at the port early morning yesterday. I saw that the boat departed the same day as well (and is now anchored in the general vicinity due to Hurricane Sandy, most likely). So I'm assuming its now at the Baltimore VPC? Or does it sit at the port of Baltimore until it get's shipped to the VPC? Any insight into what happens once it's off-loaded at the port, would be great! |

They prep the car, send it to the dealer, and then give it to you.
It's in their best interest to protect the cars through the storm, so they may have tweaked their schedules around the storm, or they're going to wait for the weather to clear.

I'm not sure of where it's at right now and I know the storm may have affected the schedule, etc. Thanks again! |

I too had a car on Parsifal and so have been tracking closely. I know that they unloaded the cars into VPC and then anchored the boat afterwards in the Chesapeake bay. Therefore the question is did the VPC and our cars get flooded. I've been searching for pictures, news stories... for any evidence of flooding. I haven't found any as of yet. I also have a message into my dealer and their only response is that they have no status and don't expect one until tomorrow.

Also, he said the VPC should have been fine (flooding-wise) since its on a higher piece of ground than the surrounding areas. I also Googled flood damage to Baltimore and it said it was minimal as most was in the NYC/NJ area. Cross fingers dude! (My CA was estimating delivery this weekend, at best. But likely early next week). |

Did a little more homework. I sent a message to the VPC center for MBenz. According to Wellenius (the shipping company) MB processes BMWs and Mini's in Baltimore. I sent Mercedes a message and here is the response i got.
"The port of Baltimore and our MB facility suffered no damage during the storm, no inventory was damaged in the storm, and normal operations are back underway today." I then sent a message confirming that they processed BMWs and Mini's and this is what he said. "For any BMW and Mini information you will need to contact BMW NA directly."

Great, thanks for the update. I figured the VPC would be fine.
Did you notice that the Parsifal went back to Baltimore (I am still tracking it on marinetraffic.com)? I'm not sure if it's been offloaded yet? Could just be that theyre back to refuel, etc. Keep me posted if/when you get a timeline for your car. My car is coming to BMW Sterling in VA. |

I did notice that it went back as I too have been tracking. However, the bmwusa site showed that my car was going through final inspection before shipment to the dealer indicating that they unloaded it.

Interesting. My car came in on Parsifal the other day and bmwusa now states Finishing Touches. I wonder if they partially unloaded including my car and then anchored offshore to weather the storm and then came back to unload the rest. It's also possible that they unloaded all the cars but only completed check in on some including mine but not yours.

I'm hoping the latter and they just didn't get around to my car. I ordered my car mid August and have had a horrible customer service experience w/this dealership (original CA either resigned/fired, they told me 7 weeks max for delivery....the list goes on).
Hoping I'll have an update tomorrow. Stay in touch and let me know how your delivery goes. |

I ordered on August 18th (long story). So fellas, I talked to my CA and he said the cars were going thru customs today and should have cleared. Then spend their time at the VPC getting inspected/QC'd.
He said if all goes well....I could have my car by Saturday but likely Monday or Tuesday of next week. What estimates did you guys get? |

I would bank on that the VPC in balt. is in good shape... mine was to be dropped tomorrow in NY/NJ off the Turandot ship and, as of today, has been redirected to Baltimore, MD instead... whats another few days of waiting.. right?

Yep, the Baltimore VPC is good to go (no flooding). And yeah, shouldnt be too much longer...I'd expect your car to be to you by next week.
BTW - looks like you have the same configuration as me....sweet setup. I got mineral grey though! |

I have gotten confirmation that my car is fine and has completed the VPC check-in process. Here is the timeline cobbled together between what I was tracking and what he told me.
Parsifal arrived on the 27th just before the storm. My car officially arrived on the 28th in the BMW computers. VPC was closed on the 29th for obvious reasons. The VPC was back open on the 30th and a standard processing work order was put in on the 30th for my car. All cars get a work order to process the vehicle. For my car the work order was completed on the 31st. The car is now dispositioned as waiting for transport. My car could show up as soon as tomorrow or Saturday at the dealer. Delivery will probably be next week sometime. The salesperson confirmed what I had said in an earlier post told. There was no reported damage to any cars at the Baltimore BMW VPC from Sandy.

It can take awhile, even if it is on a truck,..they make multiple stops. I am less than 3 hrs from the Jersey VPC, and it was 7 days from the time my car was loaded onto a truck till it arrived at the dealer.

I hope you get it as quick as you state. When I talked to my salesperson yesterday he told me my car was with the transport company. He was quick to point out that this does not mean that the car is in transit. He said they will wait until they have a full truck that they can unload ideally with 1 stop or more stops only if needed. Because of this he said it may take a week for a car to show up from Baltimore to the dealer which is in Chicago (13 hour drive).
