Thumbs up new title: miss the f30...F10 is nice but needs to go.

As my F30 sits in the shop for a suspension "adjustment", I requested a 5-series and was surprised to take seat in a 2012 535i X Drive "base" line with Navigation (unsure if it had premium, def didn't have tech since no HUD).

Since my last thread on the E__ loaner sparked some fun back and forth, I wanted to give a download on my impressions of this car.

The F10 has much much better seats. Even the base model I drove had a substantially amount of padding for the derrier compared to the F30. Odd I thought to myself.

The F30 is essentially a mini-F10:
1. ASS: MUCH much smoother on and off. Engagement is virtually seamless. I wonder if it's the car's weight that absorbs the "shake" from ASS starting and stopping?
2. Size/Weight/Speed: It's larger, heavier, and feels slower. Not as nimble as the F30. Hell the F30 isn't nimble enough for me yet.
3. Interior: absolutely awesome - I'm not even sure if I have Dakota leather, I'm assuming I do, but the textures are slightly different from the F30, and the layout is much larger. The integrated NAV, rather than it sticking out of the dash in the F30, is rather "dated", I like how it is on the F30. Stock music system isn't as punchy as the F30, but unsure if it's just the settings..I'm sure it's the same amperage, etc.
4. Exterior: it's too large for me. This model lacks the aggressive stance I like in my F30. The Xenon lighting is slightly higher, so gives a farther "pitch", but unsure if I just need to adjust my F30 stockers. The Comfort Access door handle lighting is a LOT brighter, almost 50%. Grill is gross, too many slats, and too chromey.

All in all, I felt like the F10 was my father's car. The F30 is just the right size and mix of speed and engine size...I do love the seats in the F10 though, unsure if I can get that sort of padding in the aftermarket.

I'm confused. This topic and post doesn't match. So you like f30 better overall but don't miss it?

Base 3 series, non sport, seats have always been lacking, and they are lacking in the F30 as well, though they are a tad better than the E90 but not by much. This is why the sport seats are a must have for me.
BMW sport seats are always great and the F30 sport seats are the best yet.

I'm not positive but I do recall that the 5 series uses a higher quality leather.
The 1 and 3 series leather is nothing special, quite common for a
"near luxury, premium" automobile.

ASS works pretty smoothly in my 335i Msport. 328's are rougher stopping and restarting. The only odd sensation I feel in my 335i is the suspension unloading in the rear when the engine shuts down, as I have the sport AT.
But it never shudders or shakes on shut down or start up.
Seems it's hit or miss on this as some report smooth ASS operation and others say it shakes or shudders on restart.
I think BMW has a reprogram for this if you ASS isn't working smoothly.

BTW, your heading does make it sound as if you prefer the 5 to the 3, but your comments paint a different picture.

I'm trying the heated seats out though to see if it'll offset said shrinkage...

535i is much better.

I just discovered the rear view camera...kind of nice, but kind of needed given the size.

When I first got my 328i I couldn't stand my ASS. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't make my ASS go away. And even though I didn't want to, I had to touch my ASS every time I got in the car.

So I went to my BMW service department and told them I didn't want any ASS. They told me they could make my ASS disappear. And then they did. I am so happy now that I have no ASS. In fact, an entire week can go by and I don't think of getting ASS at all. It's been therapeutic in that regard.

I'm thinking he could have picked up three, maybe four trailer park girls in a Salvation Army parking lot in seconds. Wave a $10 bill out the window if need be.

I found there to be less headroom in the F10 than the F30. I think the seat mounts are taller.

The F10 is a brilliant car... for gentlemen. I love the way the center console opens up, like it's about to show you a plethora of gold coins.

There is no lines in the 5 series, just the sport package and the M-sport package options. The tech package in the 5 series does not include the HUD, it only has the Rear view camera; Hard drive-based navigation system; Real Time Traffic Information; Voice-activation capability; Online Information Services, the HUD is a standard alone option.
If you like the base seats in the 5 series, you need to try out the optional multi contour seats, you will think you have dead and gone to heaven, its by far the best seats in any car I have been in.
The 5 series does have a smoother ASS I chuckle as I write that It mainly due to the extra attention BMW paid to the 5 series as far as vibration and insulation.
I would say overall, the F10 is more of a cruiser than the F30. If one opt for the 550i M-Sport, the F10 can give the 335i a run for its money.

240 miles later, I'm pulling a Romney.

I might have been euphoric about the extra comfy seats, but noticeable shortcomings of the F10:
1. Throttle response is about 30% slower than the f30.
2. It's so freaking large. Way too large to drive in close quarters on the Merritt Pkwy for instance... F30 is a just right size. Not sure how 7 series owners do it... Now I know why they usually drive so slow.
3. Can't pull back moon roof cover with opening it... WTF?
4. MPG is not so great.
5. Transmission shifts in Sport/DS is slower (odd).

So my love affair has come to a drastic end, and is simply a 2 night stand since BMW didn't realize they need springs for my struts on my f30. Until next time... (when my parts come in from Germany).
