What are the differences between Technology Package & Navigation System?

What am I missing out between the two?

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

- Noob

The biggest difference is the heads up display, but also real-time traffic for the NAV, remote services (i.e. BMW can unlock your car remotely, if needed), and BMW Apps and BMW Online (not sure what there entail, yet...I get my 340i next week).

All you got to do is tap the bottom of the bumper. It will flash more than usual, but, will still open the trunk. Very useful. Now i no longer need to wave my foot around. I've just now tried over 20 times and each time it worked. Excellent.
You have to kick straight in and back out...don't wave your foot around and it'll work pretty much 100%...what I don't understand is why my wagon won't close the damn thing with another kick haha

So I learned something new today on the radio. I'm not sure if it's vastly common knowledge, but I had absolutely no idea about it. For the people who are prone to forgetting which side of the car their gas tank is on, the fuel gauge inside the car has a little arrow pointing left or right (right, in the F30's case) to show which side of the car the tank is on.

Apparently, most cars have this little indicator and it was started in the 90's. I never knew that arrow was there, and if I had paid enough attention to notice it, I wouldn't have had any idea what it was for. Anyway, I thought that was pretty cool!

I just noticed today that one fog light goes on with the turn signal on that side only (2015 335i M Sport).

Something else useful, ASS keeps the engine off when you put the AT into Park. Comes in handy at the ATM to keep the heat on with the engine off.

I have a '14 with the nav package, and I have all of those features other than HUD. I thought the Tech Pkg only added HUD

Two more things I've noticed (and would likely know if I read the manual more thoroughly):

If the outside mirror adjustment selector is set to the driver's side mirror, the passenger mirror will tilt in and down while in reverse. If the selector is set to the passenger mirror, the mirror doesn't move when in reverse.

I also found last night that you can change the information in dashboard display by pressing the button on the end of the left stalk (turn signal).

It has been discussed several times, but not clearly explained.

The dash front facing vents can be adjusted to blow a different temperature air than the climate control temperature setting.

I had this on my E46 and this is absolutely one of the best features.

I would keep my car cool always, but when traveling with the wife and others, passengers are always cold. With this, I set the climate control to whatever temp makes them comfortable, then close the pass side vents and aim cool air on my face and upper body - it works great.

I just completed reading this entire thread. Thanks to all who have contributed to this wealth of knowledge. Many of the items are in the owner's manual, but sometimes it does not make sense how to get it to work, at least I've found that to be true.

I tried earlier to "program" my preset keys (the 1 thru 8 keys) with the navigation to my home, to the car pool parking lot, and to my work parking lot. I selected one of the destinations and saved it to the preset key. I then selected one of the other destinations and saved it too. When I pushed the key to recall the selection, it selected the last place I had selected, regardless of which preset button I pushed. In other words, I had programed 3 preset keys that actually just recalled the last place selected as the destination.

Does anyone know how I can change this, or is it even possible, to use the preset keys for different specific destinations.

Thanks in advance...

Not sure if this has been mentioned before in this thread.

Noticed something pretty cool today regarding heated seats and driving modes (Eco Pro Vs Comfort)

Turned on the heated seat to the highest setting and noticed it wasn't getting hot enough. At this point, I was cruising in Eco Pro mode.

I switched back to Comfort mode, all the sudden the seat got hotter then it was in Eco Pro mode. I'm assuming this has to do with being more efficient in Eco Pro and using less energy..??

Thought i'd share this and see if anyone else can relate.

Yes, it is because of the Eco Pro mode. There are options you can select / deselect in the iDrive under Eco Pro. One thing to remember while having all options selected, is the heated outside mirrors no longer are heated while in Eco Pro mode. I mention this because I was driving using Eco Pro in very cold weather and my mirrors would not retract when I parked the car, nor would the passenger side mirror tilt down (the mirror switch was properly selected to the driver's mirror) when I was in reverse. The lack of heating within the mirror caused it to freeze in place. After leaving the car parked in my garage overnight, the mirrors thawed out enough to work again as they should.

Now, when it is very cold, I turn off the Eco Pro Climate Control to ensure the outside heated mirrors remain heated so they do not freeze.

(from page 164 of my owner's manual (2012 MY)

ECO PRO climate control
"ECO PRO climate control"
The climate control is adjusted to be fuel-efficient.
The following settings are optimized:
▷ Cooling or heat output of the automatic climate
control
▷ Exterior mirror heating
▷ Seat heating

Gratz on the new car! I had mine in for service earlier today and they gave me a 2016 X-5 X-Drive 35i with most of the bells & whistles. It is amazing how much difference there is in the features (especially the iDrive & Nav) in the 4 years from my 2012 to the 2016! I've only had my F30 since January 6, 2016.

Nice!! I had to visit the dealership yesterday due to a Low Coolant Warning on a 1 week old car lol. According to the Service Advisor, it wasn't filled up to Max level at the Factory.

Let's hope that is what it was... Coolant leaks can be very hard to locate unless they are catastrophic.

Someone else posted in a different thread--when you have the auto wipers engaged, and they swipe for a few minutes, it causes the headlights to turn on if they are in "Auto". Many states have "Wipers on / Headlights on" laws, but many people forget to do this, or don't realize. Nice feature

Yes you can. I save my favorite destinations to the cars address book. Set the preset button one step shy of navigating to the destination. Should work, when you press the button, it automatically starts the navigation going to wherever. Also, when you touch but don't press the button, it'll display the address in case you forget which one is home vs work.

First post here, and love all the insight. Slight variation to the above. You have to have your foot off the brake pedal to shut everything off. If you hit it again, it will start the car again.

Step 1. Car in park, foot on brake pedal. Stop car with button.

Step 2. Take foot off brake pedal, and hit start button again, and all electronics will turn off.

Cheers,

Ken

How is this a "variation" on pressing the start button 2x for totally shut down?

The foot has to be off the brake for the second push, or the car will restart.

Cheers,

Ken
