Low audio levels on DVD's and movies from USB
Is there a setting I am missing to control the audio levels for DVD playback or movies from USB?
My son likes to watch movies in the car but I have to turn the volume up to 90% or higher to hear it, and if I forget to turn it down before changing the source back to radio, it blasts the music so loud it hurts our ears. Playing DVD's are the worst. Movies (mp4's ripped with Handbrake) from USB are not as bad....audio has to be turned up to at least 60-70%. When listening to radio, for the same audio level, only have to turn it up to 30-40% It was an Oct 2013 build. |

If you press media button you can bring up a menu where you can select external devices and under external devices there is an option for USB. Just plug in a thumb drive in the arm rest and choose the video you want to watch.

In mine, it really depends on what kind of movie I'm playing.
I noticed that with the 25GB blu-ray movies, they're so loud that I have to keep it on the low settings at all times. For other formats, the volume is too low and I end up turning the volume all the way up. At first I thought it was because of my retrofitted NBT but I guess it's with all 2014 models. |

DVD volume is so so low
DVD volume is so so low, than I crank it up to watch. If I forget to turn the volume knob before switching audio sources, then other radio sources BLAST the heck out of everything.
Now having a volume indicator can really cause problems like this. You never know how much to turn the knob before turning on source. MY13..hoping there is an iDrive update to fix this.

Same problem. Listening to music on HDD or USB, I have to crank it up, then switch to radio and get blasted. I used MP3gain with AAC add-on (my music is M4A) to normalize and increase volume across my music collection, and the volume is more consistent across the songs, but the gain increase still didn't offset the difference between sources in the car.
My home stereo lets me adjust the volume offset between sources. I wish the car did as well.

Same here.. My previous car had different volumes for each source (with really baseline radio system).. It's really a drawback.
I'm trying to find a way to change it, but I'm about to give in.. |
