if you have a jailbroken phone, you can download the correct ipa that has the feature enabled. Just like before the BMW app that allowed you to unlock your car or track on GPS became available in the US, I had been using way before that.

Now that the hot summer months have started coming around, I find it interesting to note that under heavy A/C usage in California (e.g. MAX A/C for the first 5 minutes starting the car, 4 small trips per day), I'm noticing my fuel economy take a noticeable hit. I recently put in a tank at 22-ish mpg of almost all city driving (which included some episodes of idling the car with A/C on for 20 minutes waiting for passengers and not frying in the car)

Frankly that's still not bad given the circumstances and is in line with my expectations. I'm curious what 335i and other AH3 drivers get under similar circumstances though.

Similar story here. My last few tanks have been ~22mpg, with 100% city driving and lots of temps 95F+ and MAX A/C. Frustrating.

No plans for mods here. What have you been considering?

Sportline here. Just upgraded to Morr VS8.2 19" .

Retrofit M sport kit next month.

As for suspension, I don't see they have specific one for AH3 coz the weight is definitely not just a 335. Rear is heavier comparing a 335.

Speaking of MODs I want to add the PPK and a few things from Burger motor sports. Intakes and down pipe. Think the only way I am gonna really chip it is thru BMW. Scary expensive engine to blow. I keep pushing dealer to get OK for the PPK.

The above EB blue hybrid is a beauty. I had to remove all my emblems. Was a bit much for me.

I just did that 4690 mile road trip and ran it hard. My average speed was 72 and MPH was 28. I was in sport mode the whole time and shifting triptronic. Didn't think the 28 was that bad. For the way I drive. Like I stole it.

would love to get them to say it's okay too!

thank you for the compliments. i keep getting told to do it, but the more people tell me to do it the more i don't want to do it..lol. if anything i was actually thinking of just keeping the side ones and debadging the rear one.

Days like this make me really happy about having a hybrid. Completed a 50 mile highway trip at 32mpg. Pretty boring typical 335i stuff , right?

Got off the highway to find 5 miles of stop and go. 1hr later after crawling through that traffic, reached my destination at 34mpg! Braking down the hill was enough regen to maintain battery charge for accelerating between 0 and 15mph.

In my non hybrid that's take me down from 30mpg to 25 or less. And ASS alone is worthless for actually moving around in traffic.

Nice!

I fear my terrible city MPG is only getting worse. Last week, I did a lot of short trips in heavy traffic. Lots of stop lights. Last tank = 20.6mpg

The problem is taking off from stop lights/stop signs. This uses a lot of gas, even in a normal car (just watch your instant mpg sometime!). I can idle through most lights just on battery power, but taking off again will get the motor going virtually every time. This is normal behaviour of course.

After 5000 miles, I have decided:
  • Lots of 45-70mph stretches with a few stops = great mpg.
  • Lots of <45mph trips with serious stops/heavy traffic = rotten mpg.

I'm still probably getting 10-15% better than I would in a 335i. But the car is no panacea in the worst traffic situations.

What you're getting sounds right. Especially if you're cranking up the AC, which by itself already drains your battery at a pretty amazing rate.

But I think what you said is right -- the hybrid tech is still working for you in the city, and will net you 10-15% more efficient than a car without it.

This certainly is not a Prius, and with 300+HP at tap never will be. But to be fair, BMW never said it was. My 2011 A4 2.0T with the ZF 8spd transmission has pulled off some 16mpg tanks under similar conditions, and it lacks 100HP compared to this car.

And I don't even want to go into what my 340HP Chrysler 300C got in stop and go traffic

P.S. I've seen some 21-ish mpg tanks too under all-city summer driving as well: http://www.fuelly.com/driver/jdong/a...id-3/fuelchart

I do mostly city driving and my dash reads average 20.0MPG. And its hot in FL thus making the car re-start all the time at stops to keep the AC running....

My OBC reads 22.6 with pump calculation of 20.6. So the 10% improvement over a standard 335i seems about right. When I had a longer commute, in cooler months, I had no problems with regular 25+mpg tanks.

The OBC is a liar? Not surprised!

Maybe in mixed city driving, but the kind of stop-n-go that makes an EPA 21/29 car get 16? I highly doubt the M3 is gonna get 16. You had a M3 before, right? Could you maintain 16mpg-ish with an average speed of 5 to 10mph across a tank? If so, I'd be quite impressed.

(Honestly, the A4 was my first car with a turbocharged engine and I learned pretty damn quickly how turbocharged fuel economy goes down the tubes when constantly changing engine load, like in stop-and-go)

Nah, just kidding. Yes, I had an M3. And the kind of driving that nets 20mpg in my AH3 would get me about 10mpg in the M3

I've only had my AH3 since May 3rd, so in Florida with AC and basically 100% city driving my mpg has never been better than 20-21.

You need to get it checked. Something is wrong with that MPG. I drive like an idiot and average 28. I am always in triptronic and in sport. The only way I drive.
