Question: Can you share BMS Stage 1 with another fellow 320i?

Hey guys,

Searched for an answer but I can't find it. My buddy and I have just both recently purchased 320is. We are very interested in upgrading to BMS stage 1. No homo, but could we just split the cost and install it on each other's cars? We live 5 min away from each other so setting the car to stock won't be an issue. Appreciate the help in advance!

Can't be shared. There is a module box and wires that are needed to bypass some of the stock modules that are in the car. That gets routed in the engine bay and stays in there.

Now, if you wanted the boost to go from +3PSI to +4, then there is software that can be used on a PC laptop plus a USB adapter plug that can be purchased and shared to increase the Stage 1 tune by +1. That's only needed once to change boost amount. Not sure if you would need it again if you were to uninstall and reinstall Stage 1 for any warranty work.

jonkarn, I'm confused. I thought that I had read on this forum (or another similar one) that all traces of the Stage 1 can be removed completely, in a few minutes, when you need to take the car to the dealer for service? Doesn't that conflict with what you are saying?

You can pull it out of one car and install it on another, if thats what you're asking. Wouldn't do it too many times though, because you're gonna end up breaking the connectors.

Should be no problem to swap from car to car.

After awhile though, you'll both be fighting for who gets to have it though...

If you are asking about using it at the same time on 2 different cars then obviously you cannot because it needs to be connected.

But if you mean about removing it from your friends car and installing it on yours then yes you can for sure do so.
