I wouldn't have a 40i without the MPPSK, totally transforms the car. The car becomes a viable competitor to the C43 whilst sound much better than a stock M3/M4.

I love the fact that the crappy fake sound is coded OUT when you get the MPPSK so you can hear it properly.

Here's hoping the new G 3er and 4er 'M lite' have the MPPSK as standard.

An LSD would be nice as a factory option too.

I dabbled in some SCCA racing and sometimes you don?t want to move up to a different car with a different engine because it will put you against a whole other class of cars. Which in some cases, made you less competitive depending on who your new competitors are. If you wanted to race in your current SCCA stock class without getting tossed into a super-competitive modified class then you were limited to performance parts that were available from the dealer.

Anyway, that is one reason why someone like me would stick with a 340i even if the cost with all those performance goodies was similar to an M3. It is all about the trophies :-)

I always thought it was coded out but could never confirm. I have the M Exhaust on my 335, and it seems coded out; I just could never confirm.

I like the 'fold your rear seats down' mod where it makes it sound even louder.

Why do people assume that everyone wants an M? I didn't want one when I bought my 340i

Exactly. M cars are track weapons, but terrible daily driver, especially for people who have to deal with winter conditions every year

Have to agree with that the M's have never really appealed to me as a dual purpose car. An MPPSK/THP is a nice running street car.

For a track day car that can see street use there are just to many nice choices that will run all over the M series.

Its just the way BMW get their hands on after market tuners.
People buy regular series cars and want to MOD BMW provide the alternatives. It's the same thing that you realize how much you've paid for those after market bits that you could actually get a M car

I thought M Performance LSD is only available for automatic cars. This was a manual one. Is it a new release? Does it also work with 335i or only the 340i?

Quality not tried that yet.

Bloody love that it's coded out though

Then what do you say to those who buy M performance models? Why not spend more and get an M?
To get close to the price range of a fully loaded 340i with most of the important M Perf parts, you would have a stripped M3 with no creature comfort options. I've actually gone this route. I had a fully optioned 340i M Sport that had a sticker of a base M3. I ended up selling it after a few months for a slightly more optioned M3, but still less optioned than my 340i.

Exactly, makes absolutely no sense.
It makes sense to some. Buyers wanting all wheel drive and/or active cruise control come to mind. Then there are those whom just want something more personalized and unique than an off-the-shelf M.
Totally agree with you. As a daily there is no comparison. The M cars are super harsh on the streets. No question they are a better car but I would also never buy one for a daily.

I'd also rather own an awesome version of a lesser car than the most basic version of a better car.

A nicely optioned m3 is 30,000 more than a nice 340i in Canada.
My F80 is just as comfortable as a daily as my 340i M Sport. The difference being that I don't have some options on the M3 that I did on the 340i. It doesn't effect my daily driving experience however, except that I get to sit in a way more aggressive looking and faster car everyday I drive it.

the 340i gets M mirrors before the m2 does.
