Thanks Shaun. I have a feeling that is the difference between 6582-9261704 (old No Nav) and 6582-9317695 (new No Nav) controller. I have a strong suspicion my car came with the k-can2 controller already which is why I can't use any of the other controllers and why the No Nav controller changed at that date.

Looking at the connector on the Touch Controller it is identical to mine. I should have it towards the end of next week so we will know for sure then anyway.

@steddyman : I updated The firmware using esys. There is a whole thread for it on another forum. Let me know if you want the link (not sure if Im allowed post it here). There is a risk involved though,wasn't as smooth for me. Car should be on a charger and such and I thought I lost my nbt the first day, but it went through ok on the second attempt the next day.

@Aritaurus: No, I still don't have arrows. Don't think you'll get them unless you have kombi_mid at least. However all warnings, gongs are working and displayed immediately on nbt. I got a 2014 f32. So didn't have any combox for telematics or media built in. So it was a matter of plugging out the cables from the back of the hu basic and plugging everything back into the nbt.

One more thing. My nbt now got pics of the f32 (pdc / vehicle info/ manual) after the firmware update

Regarding the zbe. I'm also suspecting we got the kcan2 for the standard basic controller already. So I'm too waiting for steddyman to try out the touch controller

Reseller confirmed the controller I ordered should just work in my car, so fingers crossed he is right.

Also, did you try a non-Touch Nav controller in your car already and did it work?

I've tried the non touch nav controller again and couldn't make it to work. (The non touch, non nav controller which came with the 2014 car does work though). I've also been thinking if the ecu "zbe" is actually built into the controller module itself. Hence the reason it disappears from the ecu list when disconnected?!
Anyway did you also order the handwriting module which fits underneath the touch controller? How much did you pay for the bunch?

No, I haven't ordered any sort of handwriting controller, just the Touch Controller. I'm glad you got the same experience as me with the other Nav controllers, confirms the two I have were not faulty and validates the controller we have already may be k-can2.

I gave almost everything working except for BMW Live and Internet. The odd thing is BMW Live was working great in every way but Internet wasn't. I went into Options under BMW Live and Updated the Connected Drive. It downloaded then said ok, but now the BMW Live is disabled again and I can't get to any of the Live features. Apps is still working fine.

Any ideas how to get Live back and why it went after an update?

Where's the K-CAN2? is it a module itself or is it a port on the NBT itself? If was to retrofit the touchpad, would I have to rerun any wires beneath the trim where the controller sits?

I never had to change out my CIC controller when I upgraded to NBT so I think if I was to upgrade to the touchpad, it would require a lot more work.

No idea, but would assume it is built into the GW of the car that translates between all the different protocols of the different units and makes it addressable via ENET. I just get the usual 4 pin cable under the ZBE.

No it isn't. But BMW_ONLINE_SERVICES is active on the NBT.

Regarding this firmware upgrade process, I guess most systems on my car will already by up to date given the age of the car. I have a few questions (yes I am getting tempted):

1. When I follow the process mentioned in that post, will it show me a list of any ECU's that need updating and give me the option of ignoring them?
2. Will it only update the NBT with a firmware that is compatible with it.
3. If I upgrade the NBT FW with the Emulator installed, will it keep it's current donor VIN or reset to the cars VIN. If the latter, can it be changed back so the FSC's still work?
4. Are there any advantages to this firmware upgrade?
5. Will it reset any FDL coding of the NBT back to VO defaults (or worse)?

3. Yes - But only if you specify Donor Vin on TAL instead of VIN from FA
4. Yes - 51.3 fixed some issues.
5. Yes - It will VO encode NBT and all FDL Coding will be wiped.

You can't use a cheap Trickle Charger. You need a commercial grade charger rated for 70 Amps. I have the Schumacher INC-700A 4/20/70 Amp Automatic Charger

I have heard of people doing so, but I don't know. I can't image the Voltage is stable like a Microprocessor controlled charger is.

Hey Shawn, looks like I have a mandatory recall that requires a software update at the dealer for an emissions issue.

If I end up on 51.3 and my NBT is on 50.4, will I have any issues using it again or do you think I'll need to flash the NBT to 51.3 like the rest of the car?

NBT should be fine at 50.4 and rest of car on 51.3. You will need 51.3 PSdZData though to code car when you get it back.

Very interesting details. I'm going to order my NBT soon through a eBay seller Aritaurus recommended. Hopefully everything goes smooth with the install. I'm going to go from an Entry_HU to NBT_HU.

Aritaurus, Wondering if you needed a new cable from NBT_HU to the display. From my understanding if I come from Entry_HU i should be able to use the same cable. Am I correct in assuming this? As the NBT's sold don't come with any cable which goes between HU and Display. If I do need to replace the cable, I guess i need to order it.

steddyman, where did you get your emulator from? I need to get one as mine doesn't come with one. I prefer a plug and play one, as i don't want to splice any cables. If you don't mind can you point me in the right direction please.

That's what I thought too. I'm hoping that the dealership won't say anything or find any signs that my CIC has been swapped out and running in 1lyfe's car for almost two months lol. It should be ok if I just VO code the CIC once I put it back in.

Yes, business. I am originally from NYC and Boston, and have been all over Canada so I am somewhat used to it. Just need some Tim Horton's coffee and doughnuts, and I'll be alright.
