40 - 100 video

not quite flat out at the beginning or end, there was quite a bend in the 'private' road...

You are right it is more of a surge than a kick in the back - what you couldn't see from the video was the wheels slip I was getting as it changed up the first few gears - this was despite the perfect road conditions - perhaps it could do with wider tyres on the back, might shave a few tenths off the time.

BTW I had it in auto Sport mode, don't think I could match those changes myself, not until I've had more time in the car. Didn't want to risk Sport+ either as that turns off traction control!

Turbo lag is none existent and in sport mode you'd be hard pressed to tell it is a diesel/turbo at all. I think the advantage the F30 has is in the handling department. Although I was used to it the E60 is a big old bird, she could hitch her skirt and go like the clappers when she needed to but the F30 is so tight and composed it makes the 5 Series M Sport feel like a boat. I've called my car Jessica after Jessica Ennis, need I say more?

I think the F30 is also more comfortable in its M Sport guise than the E60, it certainly rides smoother on our crappy British roads.

But in addition to that there is a continuous wave of torque that means the acceleration just keeps on coming and coming, giving you the feeling of linear delivery as well.
I would say that sounds similar to my E90 330d LCI (not surprising as its the same N57 engine so will have similar characteristics ). However, of course the F30 will be more rapid with more power/torque.

Thanks guys for the videos and reports. Its great to finally see some great positive feedback on the F30 330d performance.

I have always been a big 5 series fan but i think the only chinks in its armour were the turbo-lag, the slightly jiggly ride and the feeling of being a bit of a heavyweight although bmw were masters at disguising the weight.

It sounds like the F30 330d has addressed all those issues.
Mix in the higher quality interior, on the money front end looks and it sounds like the perfect car.

Hi Newby here on this site

Just ordered my wife a 330d M Sport in EB11 still got time to change the spec but was wondering if you guys could help as i don't know much about the car but have noticed that some F30's have a LCD display in both the speedo and rev counter, when I asked the dealer why that was he said mine will have that as standard as it has the performance control. Just looking at Adman Mike's great videos his doesn't have them so could someone on here help me out and tell me what they are and what they come with?

The car we have ordered is only a low spec as the wife reeled me in when ordering it extra's are privacy glass and Xenons it was either this or a fully loaded 320d M Sport ad i wanted to go back to the 6cyl deisel.

Can't help with the LCD display but think you made the rite decision on the 330. I almost signed up to a higher spec 320d but so glad now i went for the 330d.

The option you are looking for is the "black panel display" - i think it's 110 quid ?

I was tempted to tick this box but was unsure what you got for your money.

Can anyone describe what you get with and without this ?

Thanks in advance.

The BPD comes with loads of other options so you ight already have it but in a nutshell, it turns most of the dash into an LCD type screen so that lots of interesting graphics can be shown and stuff.

It's actually a pretty crapo iomplementation on the 3 series. If you see the true black panel display on the higher models, the entire dash is jet black apart from the silver outlines to the bexels. There's no dials or anything and it looks super sexy Everything is then digital. The 3 series is kinda half way and the area where the mpg counter usually is now becomes the screen to display all the funky ECO Pro stuff.

I'll try to find a vid of the "proper" black panel displays

Thanks for the review Mike, looks a great car.

Just for your info, TC gets de-sensitised in Sport+ not switched off completely.

Yes that was my understanding - that sport+ allows some slip but does not have TC completely off.

Does anyone know what cable I need to plug my iPhone into the car system? I tried plugging the standard iPhone sync cable into the USB port in the front armrest but the car does not recognise it. I have an iPhone 4 and the HK system.
