Dear rustyminded and slmdgee, if any of you guy could make a launch video for us like the youtube video titled "BMW F30 328i w/ GTHaus Meisterschaft Catback Launch," that would be very awesome. I expect that your AA + catless dp would not sound any lesser than that.

Would a downpipe help to eliminate droning?

Nope, it will increase it because of the higher flow but that doesn't mean dp alone will cause it.. I think it's installation issue, I'll check with the mechanic to see if there are any leaks.

I have a video versus CLC 350, I'll try to upload it

I say installation issue since you said you had a lot of problems getting it on. Not saying you do not know what you are doing, but I would have a professional performance Indy shop look at it.

It's pretty easy to see if there were any leaks by examining for any black soot around the pipe connections. This is my first BMW exhaust install, but not my first exhaust. I've stripped an entire motorcycle down to the transmission gears, clutch, rebuilt with customized parts including exhaust, so I'm pretty confident about my installation. My last car was a 2008 civic and I've done pretty much everything on it (no ricing) except the engine and transmission.

Just for kicks, though, I actually took it to a friend's mechanic shop in Seattle and was confirmed that that's just the nature of some the exhausts. I can see the problem being less prevelant in a manual car, but in an auto with comfort mode where the car like to stay in the 2-3k rpms range, it's unavoidable; eco is less than 2k rpm and sport is above 3k.

Thanks for the suggestions, though.

Don't get me wrong, it's a great product for the price but if I do it over, i would either stay stock or spend more for something better designed

I recently put the AA exhaust on my 328 and the muffler shop told me that the fit was atrocious, but they made it work. I absolutely love the sound, and while its loud in low rpm's inside, I don't think its so loud that it would give a headache. I actually like knowing its there, every time you give it throttle under 2500 rpm there's a nice rumble.

Driving in sport mode would make it deliberately avoid 2000-3000rpm. it might be one way to reduce your headache.

Agreed! Driving in sport mode with AA exhaust is the best, especially with paddles.

However, I just switched to M Performance exhaust which has ZERO drone but the sound is quiet and the meager 70mm exhaust tips -- compared to 80mm on AA -- look really weak.

Compared to MPE, AA exhaust sound is soooo much louder, deeper, more powerful, and smoother sounding. If the vibrations/drone in Eco and comfort weren't there in AA exhaust, it would be so perfect.

No issues here. Drone is not as bad as you describe, I like the rumble when gassing it and the sound when it backfires. Install was a breeze.

The drone it has is only under moderate throttleor more, peaks at 2500rpm. I like it, has a meatier feeling of sound, whereas the mpe sounds good but you dont feel it at all, i guess its a an extra level of sensation/connection since its much easier to tell in what rev range you are just by sound/pulses, and it goes away by 3k rpm. I did run into a bit of an exhaust leak in each coupling despite being 100% properly engaged and flush, but its very very small leaks.
