To all F30 drivers: Would you give up your 3-series for a 4?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com As much as I like the new 4 series, I do not see any incentive to ever swap my F30 with the new F32 as it doesn't offer enough incentive to change it...interior is almost similar, so is the exterior....only minor differences. I was wondering if anyone would change, and if so based on what reasons? and if not, why? |

I just ordered my car fully knowing the deal with the 4. Firstly I wanted a sedan, second I honestly like the 3 series better. I think it has amazing lines. When I look at the profile of both I prefer the 3 series. Don't get me wrong, I think the 4 series is beautiful. The 335 is just exactly the type of car I have been wanting for a long time.

Has to have 4 doors.
So a 4 GC, sure-why not swap?

I drove a 4 yesterday and there certainly are quite a few things improved. Its awesome. Love the lines and how low it is and handling is more buttoned down. I for sure wouldn't trade my 3 in for it though.. They are so so similar it's almost like not having a different car. I also WANT, not need four doors. So I wouldn't. GC I probably would. I also like my particular 3 more than most cars altogether. It's an amazing car. The 4 series is amazing as well just not much more amazing....not enough to do a trade in.

Nope, didn't even give it a second thought but then again, I never considered an e92 over the F30 even though the e92 is BEAUTIFUL.

I wouldn't give up my car as it is now. If the 4 series was available when I was shopping for the 3, I would have chosen the 4.

Maybe for the 4GC, when it is out, but thats a long way and perhaps $5k more than equally equipped F30

Saw my first 4 series today at the dealership - same color combo as my f30 msport (mg on blk with alum hex) letting me easily envision life with the 4. I'm infatuated with my f30. I think the 4 a beautiful coupe, but the steep decline in utility in the fewer doors and seemingly smaller back seat make it a non-starter. If I rarely had back seat riders, I'd likely feel differently. Also saw my first 335GT today - that will be a worthy consideration when my lease is up.

While I think the f32 is a better looking car than the f30 (wider body, better roof lines, better bumper), it's not such a slam dunk case like the e90 vs e92. I don't blame 3 series owners for not wanting to give their car up for a 4 series that offers slightly different looks and slightly better driving dynamics, as well as 2 less doors. They're very much the same family of car, you can't go wrong with either of them. They both have the same amazing engine/transmission/driving dynamics, it's just packaged a little different.
