Dashboard Cameras

Just wondering if anyone has a dash board camera?

I was a little apprehensive about the image quality, but they look really good.

Looking at some sample videos on here, they seem well worth it.

Defiantly a worth while investment, I bought mi witness front and rear cameras after a crash last year. Gives you more confidence when driving knowing everything is recorded.

Andy I've been thinking about this after watching all those compilations on YouTube in Russia!

Have you selected a model yet? That site's US, have you found a good UK one?

Masses of choice though, I did see one the size of a box of matches with great HQ vid.

It's a US site but most of the models are available with Amazon in the UK.

Not sure which model yet - I have been looking at the BlackVue range though.

I ride motorbike and these types of camera (helmet mounted) are becoming very popular. These are by far and away the most popular http://gopro.com/cameras I am sure they must have car mounts and you can stick em anywhere inside or out.

I bought one last year for about £20. Picture quality is acceptable and hopefully means a lack of witnesses of an accident will not be a big issue.

It records onto a memory card which loops round once it is full so you never run out of memory.

Was this the matchbox size camera you were looking at? £45 via Ebay from Hong Kong with good quality video both day and night:

Yes that's the kiddie! I'm so lazy I didn't search it when I posted.

I thought the quality (for the price) was truly outstanding. And that clip you put in was exactly what I watched.

I mean for the money, gotta be worth a go... Santa has been informed

I'd been researching the same unit. The quality at that price point appears very good.

Mrs Santa may also be buying me a present - that said, I can hear the conversation now when I suggest it! Maybe, I'll just treat myself

I have a Blackvue 400 HDII incident camera in my F30. The quality of the imaging day and night is excellent! It records in HD 1920x1080 and you can zoom in very well number plates on the PC. If you have it connected to the battery it will also start recording when parked if someone hits it! It has a built in G Sensor and GPS too for journey mapping.

I had a 50/50 accident on a roundabout last December in my car and before I knew it my insurer paid out to the third party stating it was my fault when it wasn't. Also there was one person in the car, but insurers paid out on three whiplash claims! Insurer did not want to know when I told them. If this had been recorded I would have won the claim!

Also HD camera evidence is admissible in court and as insurers cant be bothered to defend claims, I thought the £180 was money well spent. As I have a £250 Excess on my policy all it takes is one accident filmed and it has paid for itself.

Adrian Flux Insurance give 15% discount off their premiums if you have one fitted in your car.

I would highly recommend one!

Where about have you mounted it? Do you take the power from under the glove box (from the hidden power socket)?

I have the Blackvue dr500gw-hd Camera and mounted it by the rear view mirror powered to the socket under the glovebox. The wire is hidden so you cannot see it anywhere as I ran it inside the headlining and A pillar.

I'm very pleased with it but it does seem expensive compared to those Chinese units!

Here was my review

I think it's ridiculous that a car equipped with parking cameras, an internal hard disk and display doesn't offer the option to record video from the cameras

Shouldn't manufacturers be integrating this sort of technology by now?

Hmm, then the next step will be for it to record all the time, without any option for you to turn it off and then it will become law. No thanks!

Yes it is. The hidden socket in passenger footwell with wires ran around A-pillar and centre console. You cannot see any wires whatsoever and is very well hidden behind rear view mirror. I also have multiple 12v socket hidden behind steering wheel so my speed camera detector can work off same socket too.

I Do miss one in the boot though.

Dickie.

So is your camera left running all the time until you need to see the footage?
