Pilot Sport A/S 3+ feel...bouncy?
Howdy folks,
Bought my 2015 328i xdrive last August. Love it. Great upgrade from my two Accords. Fine enough mid life crisis car for a guy who still needs a dad taxi. Anyway, just swapped the stock Conti RFTs for Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+ last Friday. 225/50/17. Love the improved grip - traction control hasn't kicked in once since I got em. Ride comforts fine, road noise fine, haven't bothered to notice mileage yet. I see from other posts that I'm not the only one to notice how much lighter the steering is with these tires. The car also feels... probably not the right word but - a bit bouncy, and I think I feel a bit more body roll. For casual driving, doesn't matter but I've taken my favorite two lane three turn freeway 70 mph (well, the yellow sign recommends 40, ahem) exchange a couple times now and didn't feel as planted in transition or in the midst of its big sweeping left as I did with the Contis, and that surprises me. Installers sent me home with 35 psi front 38 rear. Door says 32 all around, and the manual says for +100 mph (I think) 35/42 - but those speeds are rare occasional opportunity bursts, not sustained, so I'm not concerned there. I've left the pressure as is for now, and of course I can and will tweak tire pressure till I find what I like but I wonder - do I want to firm up the sidewalls with more pressure to reduce perceived bounce and roll? |

Bumping this thread as I'm interested in these tires.
TTRPG: any update on your experiences? Have they improved with break in? Did you try to lower the air pressure?

I mostly love these tires. Had the original AS3's then replaced w/ AS3+.
Very quiet and responsive. Much more comfortable than the OEM RFTs. Great grip, I've driven in the snow a few times and been fine, too. My major complaint: terrible treadwear. The first AS3's barely made it to 18k miles. Good news was that Michelin (via Discount Tire) gave me a pro-rated refund, so decided to go with the AS3+ as replacement. Ended up being about 50% off for all 4. Bad news is 2 of these are now at 3/32 after 10k miles. Didn't get around to rotating them until a month ago, because I thought "rotate every 10k or so". The ones that are the most worn (3/32) were on the rear. Fronts were at 6/32". And, no, I'm not drifting or doing hole shots. Although do drive spirited sometimes. |

For example I drive almost exclusively on black top and concrete yet rural roads back home in mtns contain crushed granite which chews through tires. I've been happy with the wear on my A/S3+

No auto-x, no track days. I live in fairly urban area, suburb of Raleigh NC, so it's a mystery why they've worn so fast.
I do like to hammer it around on- or off-ramps, but I'm typically in Comfort or Sport, rarely in Sport+, so the car isn't losing traction. |
