BMW 328i wins Cars.com Lifestyle Award for the 2014 Luxury Car of the Year

January 15, 2014

The BMW 328i continues the success story of the BMW 3 Series, started more than 35 years ago when it was first launched.

Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – January 15, 2014 …
The 2014 BMW 328i has been selected as the winner of the Cars.Com Lifestyle Award as the Luxury Car of the Year. The BMW 328i is the perfect blend of luxury, sport and prestige. Cars.com tested it against the industry's best luxury sport sedans in 2013 and it came out on top, beating its competitors.

According to Cars.com “It does everything well. It has strong acceleration from the turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine; has progressive, fade-free brakes; and sharp, nimble handling. It's quick: zero to 60 mph in just 6.5 seconds. It's frugal: Observed gas mileage in our testing rang in at 28.1 mpg combined city/highway. The list of equipment, both standard and optional, is quite complete”.

The award was received by Paul Ferraiolo, BMW Product Planning and Strategy Manager. Paul expressed his gratitude to Cars.com for recognizing the passion that everybody at BMW and its dealers share for the Ultimate Driving Machine.

Hasn't it been repeatedly measured at 5.6 seconds for 0-60? I'm guessing that's a typo.

They must be talking about the 320i with that acceleration figure.

still doesnt change that the car has a subpar interior now compared to the e90. the base version has really cheap looking plastic trim, horrible seats and i just cant get over the idrive screen looking like an afterthought. the stock steering wheel is cheap feeling and the center stack looks boring.

The E9X interior is now showing it's age. Comparing them to the F3X, it is night and day. What I do hate is that the Dakota Leather feels too similar to SensaTec. BMW should just get rid of SensaTec and make Dakota standard and offer Nappa (like in the M3) as the $1,450 stand alone upgrade or part of the Premium Package. I absolutely agree with the stock steering wheel. Too skinny. The iDrive screen did get on my nerves for quite some bit but it's grown on me and now I don't mind it. Have you seen Mercedes-Benz's Nav screen on the CLA and upcoming C-Class?

Sorry, I hate it when words like 'luxury', or 'life style' are used in discussing cars.

I love the interior of the 2014 3-Series, including the wide high-resolution iDrive screen and it's placement on the dash. The sunvisors and seatbelt seemed oddly pedestrian to me. But the 328d's speed off the line, ZF transmission and gas mileage, combined with the look of the car from the outside in my opinion are just unbelievable.

Driven one for a week, didn't feel like a $40k+ car. Cheaper plastic inside then on previous generation, 4-banger sounds like a diesel when cold, steering over-boosted, run flat tires still suck...
We still have to see long term reliability of the twin-turbo..wait, this is BMW forget about long term reliability. Anyway, I'd have to be pretty drunk to shell out 40 grand for a camry version of BMW.

I agree there are several aspects with the 328i not indicating a luxury sedan. But when it comes to driving dynamics, the 328i is better than the 320d I used to drive a few years back. If I did not care of the driving dynamics I would go for the new C-class. Unfortunately, I know from experience the C-class will not compete with a 328i MT in the driving dynamics department A would be happy if I'm mistaken, but I doubt it.

Yeah...I meant twin-scroll turbocharger, single turbo though.
Either way, pretty noisy engine and not in a good way.
