Where to source a keyfob

Not sure if this is the right place, but here's my question:
I have a 2014 328D, which came with a single keyfob. I would like to get a second one, just in case. I have watched videos, and it seems rather easy to pair a keyfob, but my question is where to get one. Can I only purchase it from the dealer? I have see a few on eBay for very reasonable prices, but I have no idea if they will actually work. On bimmertech I read a post that says that as of 2023 they can only be purchased from the dealer. So I am confused...

Long answer short... you need to bite the bullet and pay the dealer. CA dealers (for CA registered cars) seem to have asked about $200, but most others ask between $300-600. I believe they order it from Germany.

Unless you invest in a $500-1000 equipment that can copy your existing key FOB into a another one and update your car's FEM with the new key an erase the lost key from memory.

Automotive locksmiths are very hard to find ((at least in the DC area) and most are unwilling to do BMW, because it's just too much work when they can do 3 Hondas during that time or 10 KIAs. They will ask between $150-$300.

The Ebay FOB would only work if you already have a spare key FOB with a transponder chip that is synced to your car, and you are willing to risk de-solderig the chips and swapping the OEM chip into the Ebay FOB.

Note: when you get your new FOB from the dealer, you can sync it yourself. Do not let them charge another $100+. Just do a YouTube search.
