do all south africa cars go to germany before coming to US?

Forums suggest that they do but my CA keeps telling me it might come straight over. I called 1800 BMW customer service and couldn't get a definitive answer from anyone, they kept saying too early to tell where it could go at this time.

I think this depends on if your destination is East or West coast US. from what i have read on forums, if going to East coast US, it takes boat from SA to Germany where it switches boats and then takes the same route as a German built bmw would, going to East Coast US. if going to west coast from SA, its direct.

looks like the boat "glorious leader" just left the durban port this morning 9/14, at around 10am this morning. starting its long journey... i think it will be a few days before the ships and bmw update with this new info

Good luck guys. I gave up and bailed on my SA order. Placed order back in mid-July. Vehicle has been at port since Aug 7. Last week I gave up and cancelled order.

I'm in a similar situation. I actually ordered my 340 in mid June, but the dealer told me it could take as long as November to be delivered. So I knew that going into it. Does anyone know if my car will go to the east coast or west coast since my dealership is in Colorado? Thanks.

Unfortunately, it's still waiting on the boat. I thought it would be getting on the "glorious leader" on the 14th, but it looks like it didn't. What about you? My CA said it is going straight to the US, but I thought all of the SA cars go to Germany first.

completed 8/25. status says still waiting on a boat. my CA thought same thing about going straight to the east coast but I still think it is going to germany first based on these forums. I called the 1800 number and talked to representative also but they don't really seem to know anything

There is very little public information on the internet about South African built cars, and the tracking times.

Based on my research, which could be inaccurate, if you car was at port for at least 2-3 weeks, it should be on the ship Glorious Leader, which left Durban port on 9/14 and will arrive at Bremerhaven, Germany on 10/3. The next ship out to East coast US from Bremerhaven will be leaving on 10/6, but I am not sure, if there is enough time to have the cars unloaded and loaded to new ship. But there are ships leaving Germany to East Coast US once every week in October.

The computer systems for BMW and Wallenius Wilhelmsen do take many days before it updates, just don't have any high expectations.

Yes, mine is "in transit" as well via 800 number today. it was also "at port" yesterday. seem about right, 4 days to update status after getting on "Glorious Leader"

I would also talk to customer relations and ask for which boat its on.

looks like boats to east coast US from S. Africa, are average two boats a month to East Coast and two boats to the West Coast. about 21 days transport for my boat. mine sailed on 9/17, due to NJ port on 10/8. But there is also a lot of time having car transport via rail or freight to port and waiting at the port for 1-3 weeks.

my car waited on at the port for 25 days.
