NEW: Rotating Tires with a Staggered Setup?
I was watching MotorTrend TV last night, and they were showing a new tire from a 6 series that was bi-directional, so you could rotate them from one side to the other. They said an additional advantage from rotating your tires - on top of the longer life - is that it limited the increase in road noise as the tire wears.
I'm considering order a new F30 with a squared, instead of staggered setup mainly due to the additional cost (and noise) associated with not being able to rotate my tires. But if rotating tires may be possible on a staggered setup, I may consider staying with this setup. I know that special tires would need to be purchased just for this reason, so does anyone know how wide-spread these types of tires are?

Michelin PSS are non-directional, so that may help you.

If they're not asymmetric, get them "popped inside out". Otherwise, with any sort of negative camber, you're still wearing the same inside edge of your tyres.

I was told that was the case years ago (and given some reason why that I honestly do not remember now) but assured that the modern tires of today do not have that problem. But again, I was assured I had ACC at the same time, which I have since figured out I really do not. |

This DOES help with tire tread noise as it helps even out the consistent tire wear that develops and can lead to higher tread noise. Flipping the tires also helps extend the useful life of the tire. It's not as much as non staggered tires as you can fully rotate that type. I had a great experience with my 135i's staggered setup. The tries did develop a wear pattern tread noise a bit over half their life span, so I flipped them left to right and the noise decreased greatly. Performance remained great and the tires wore evenly across the tread. They were non directional Conti DWS. The DWS do have a tread that looks directional but TireRack said they will work just fine flipped and they did. I have the DWS on my 335i Msport staggered setup. |

I'm thinking about trying them when my PSS wear out. Seems like one of the only affordable tires I can find in 285/30/19
