That's what I'm seeing. The way the high points are lighter and the dark hollow (a little to the left of the stitching) is a good indicator. Plus the worst wear on the right side of the seam, (the more bulky section) shows it is not simple fading, but clearly worn off.

I'd definitely put it down to a high wear rate, whatever the cause.

This seems to happen a lot. My fiancé wiped her steering wheel down and it got a lot clearer. However, if it is worn out and someone claims it and has it replaced by BMW let us know.

It could be abrasive wear combined with sun damage?, However, where it's wearing at the 11 o'clock seem and on the top of the steering wheel, I don't every really make contact. The car was used when I purchased it a year ago and I didn't notice anything wrong then or I would've had it replaced before factory warranty ran out. I only clean with warm soapy water when I notice a sheen beginning to form. So after cleaning it 2-3 times I started seeing the wear areas.

If it's not covered, I may look at an M3 wheel...such a bummer though.

Stop. Everyone.

Mine looked exactly like that. I used Leatherique rejuvenator and cleaner. It looked brand new 10 minutes later. This is my 7th post raving that product. I'd sell it if I could.

Go on their site and see the pics people post - before and after. It's magic.

Erm...people's steering wheels haven't stopped fading though. Wish I found my post months ago. It'll help anyone with the same issue in the future, even if we're not having a discussion around it right now...
