Fault code ideas
Hi all
I have a 14 plate f30 335d. Had a chap over to remap her yesterday and he did a check first for any fault codes before proceeding. Seemed ok apart from one. The fault code was “Air Mass value range too high or excessive”... because of this and due to recently buying from a main dealer i get 12 month warrenty and to take it to them first then afterwards he will feel more comfortable remapping. Which i thought was nice as he had come a fair way! Obviously im going to take it into bmw but would appreciate any kind of advice that i can relay to them so they dont fob me off and just clear the code only for it to reapear again. Ive had the car around a month and feel its always driven spot on and seems running at peak power. But if its always been low on power since buying i wouldnt have noticed the decrease and thought its all normal. Many thanks Dave |

Did he tell you when this code was triggered?
If it was a while back, I wouldn't put much thought into it. Clear and wait to see if it resurfaces. As to whether or not the car runs at "peak power" you can just go and dyno it. I had 312HP before the tune and 361 after the remap. Also, take into account that the diesels go through a DPF regeneration phase - while it's doing it, you might experience slight loss of power.

Could have just been a glitch. All the fault codes get logged chronologically in the computer. (Logged by mileage). Like stormlv said, if it was a while ago, I wouldn't worry about it.

Thanks guys. No unfortunatly not. I have just emailed him to see if he remembers when it was logged.
The cars only done 31k so maybe a bit more time until the dpf regen. Not sure The problem is. I dont have the means to reset the code to see if it resurfaces. Although, saying that, i have just received through the cable to connect the car to a laptop as i want to code enhanced blue tooth (thats all new to me but have seem some good guides on here). Perhaps i can use that lead, my laptop and somesoftware you guys could recommend to check and clear codes. Dunno? Thanks |

If you check out the coding section, you can find info on getting the BMW ISTA/E-Sys software. That would allow you to log in (just like the dealership does), and see all codes, and when they were logged.
Everything gets logged (even when you jack up the car to change tires and the alarm goes off). |
