Got my first scratch!!!..will it buff out???
Was driving on the highway at about 120kph (75mph) and a truck in front of me kicked up a big tree branch that was on the roadway. It managed to scrape my hood and demolish the windshield. Thankfully it hit the passenger side and no one was sitting there. Must have fallen off another truck in front of both of us. Unfortunately ran over a 2nd piece as well and have some undercarriage damage mainly to the side skirt. Both pieces looked to be about a 2ft long and 4-6in thick...hard to tell when it's flying at you that fast! It could have been a lot worse if the wood would have speared the windshield. Surprising how little time you have to react. I realized it was flying my way and just had enough time to think oh shit.
No one hurt so that's all that matters. Question is will it buff out? Insurance has been pretty good so far and it's at a certified shop to get patched up! |

Seems to me there's more than just a scratch issue....isn't it dented?

Windshield did it job keeping the piece from penetrating the cabin.
Those small glass shards is why I always like wearing some type of eye protection while driving. Glad you ok.

A little duct tape will fix that windshield right up.
Something like this happened on my previous car. I was driving on the highway at night around 80mph. Car in another lane runs over something which blows out his tire. Whatever it was, flips up into the air and boom right into my windshield. The center of the crater actually broke through the safety glass with a hole. Not fun at all. |

Stuff with glass makes me so nervous, especially cleaning those small shards up.
If you miss just one iota of a piece someone can touch it and get it in their finger.

I think the body shop will clean that glass, then get the car detailed if they're worth anything.
That is beyond a scratch. Possible it can be sanded, but that hood is getting repainted. In fact, if that isn't the resolution, you need to raise hell until it gets done. Thats the only answer to that hood. That glass needs to be shop vac'd out and it likely scattered other places than just that passenger seat and the front carpet. Good luck bud. Sorry that happened to you, but it could be worse, as in an accident with the truck instead of the tree branch.

you wont get rid of that mate can see the scratch is bad and it looks indented. a bodyshop may be able to fill it which will require a respray. cheapest option is a new / good 2nd hand bonnet

comprehensive claim, technically not an "accident". Either way i'm not too concerned. This is pretty minor on the scale of accidents and car value. |

Good luck. Was driving the wife's Prius on an expressway at about 70mph when a truck ahead blew a tire and threw pieces all over the place. One came sailing right back at me. Fortunately, no one was in the "slow" lane, so swerved enough to keep it from hitting me right on the driver's side windshield. It did tear off the outside driver's side mirror and scratched the door and side glass. An SUV driving in the lane to my left took quite a hit on his grill. Lucky that we weren't hurt, but this type of thing is all to common with the retread tires used on big trucks.

Just PDR and some touch up paint. Then use that walmart crack remover for the wind shield.
