328i Mods?

I am looking to get more out of my stock (other than M performance exhaust) 328i. Thoughts on Injen COI and JB4? Feel free to leave other suggestions.

New to this whole forum thing so work with me

I can only talk about the Piggyback setups, as I have the Active 8 piggy back.
A tune (either ECU or piggyback) is the absolute best bang for the buck for our cars...HANDS DOWN!

I choose a piggyback for several reasons....
Pros:
-Leased cars, the mods can be reverted back to stock in under 5 mins.
-The ECU is not flashed so the entire setup can be removed and resold.
-If car has to go in for warranty work it can be removed and is undetectable.
-Proven results (and we have track data to show!) No crap "DYNO" sheets...
-Cheaper then a flash.

Cons:
-Some say, not as much top end power as a ECU flash? (No proven yet)
-Some cheaper piggybacks can cause drive-train malfunction issues. (see posts for more info *you do get what you pay for here...) FYI : I have NEVER had an issue with my setup.
-Some complain about "surging". The ECU tunes are more liner and smooth.
-No obd2 support , so CEL will come on with cat-less DP, (JB4 can override this and so can ECU flash)

Here is a link to a comparison about each.
http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1173502

FYI *MY completely stock N26 328i Xdrive, I was running 14.3 at 96mph in the 1/4 stock.
Now with 103 octane race-gas mixture and the AA8 piggyback and some fine tuning im running 13.090 at 104mph in the 1/4 mile.
Just a piggyback and fuel and all stock! Just saying...
I have ALOT posted about this in the 1/4 mile section on this forum.

Welcome, start searching and have fun. The guys here are awesome and very informative.

I have an N20 with a current vs orig BMS stage 1 (not JB4) A-B comparison.
Both are BMS stage 1. Stock is outright lethargic and it's an early 2013, later 2013s are N26s.
The older unit does have a bit of "surging" compared to the new one. 3rd gear surges and overall feels it pulls harder with the older unit that also connects to the MAF sensor.

If you are not planning on getting downpipes get the Jb stage 1
If you plan on adding downpipe get the JB4

a tune (whether a JB or Jb4) is the best mod you can get for this car ... Makes it much more fun to drive

As for intake, i recommend the Injen intake .. high quality, sounds great and very reasonably priced

I have stage 1 and love it, I just added Injen CAI and my gas mileage has shot way down from over 30 to 24. Not sure if it's just taking time to Re adjust but so far not happy at all.

Wow that certainly is an issue, hopefully it just needs to break in. Putting that aside are you happy with the performance? Is it worth the money or should I just purchase a drop in?

Can't really say as of now since I'm so concerned with mileage. It sounds nice not as loud as I had read which was something I wouldn't want. If I can get some assurance it's not going to kill my mileage I'll run it a little harder and see if it's as good as advertised

Thank you Mike, I do hope to get a downpipe eventually. In the meantime, is there a map on the JB4 that would be safe to use with my current stock DP and CP?

since you live in NJ, consider the Enzo flash.

i've read numerous posts that cai doesn't do much, except for sound. HP drop in filter might be adequate. you could put the rest towards an ER chargepipe and a FMIC to maintain the power you're making.

Thanks, but what are the acronyms you are using? and before you tell me to search, I did but I am not sure I am looking at the correct stuff.

I myself am planning on modding my n20 (428xi) in the next few weeks. I'm getting the following: ER charge pipe, ER catless downpipe, JB4 (stage 2), and BMS intake. I personally do not know anyone who uses Injen; I can honestly say that BMS sounds very nice, and the parts are of great quality.

Oh right that's what I meant, my apologies. I was car shopping for a 435 and made a parts list for the n55 lol, so I mixed up the brands.
