From BRZ to F30
So I've been debating, right now I drive a Subaru BRZ. Bought the car 2013 with 2 miles on it. Loved every second of it. Heres a picture of it.
Any how, I live with my parents and they have a F30 luxury line 328xi. I love driving the car whenever I can. They have been thinking about making our house a bit bigger for some reason. So they have been debating on selling the F30 to just have a little less to pay off. They told me that i could sell my car brz and that I could get the F30.. Question, is it worth it? I wish it was the sport because of that front bumper... absolutely love it. I would have a good amount of money to spend if I did part with my car. I would want to swap front bumpers. How much would that run me? Probably would want a set of m5 wheels and debating on springs or go straight to air ride since I've had it on my last car and loved the ride. I just need that extra push to actually swap out cars. Give me some pros and cons on why or why i shouldn't swap them. |

Honestly, they are two very different cars. I don't have a BRZ but I've spent time in an FR-S so I'll take that as my comparable.
In my opinion, the top Pros and Cons of switching from a BRZ to an F30 are... Pros: - A stock F30 (if it's a 328 or higher) will have better acceleration than a stock BRZ. I haven't checked 0 to 60 times lately but I believe the difference is higher than 1 second. Anything more than half a second faster is noticeable in my book. - The F30 has more road prestige. Let's face it, the BRZ for all intents and purposes is substantially cheaper than the F30 and it shows based on the clientele that drive the car. This may or may not make a big difference to you, but it is important to a lot of people. - If you spend a lot of time in your car, you will find the F30 a lot more comfortable relative to a stock BRZ. Whether it's fit and finish or general seat comfort...I'd rather be stuck in traffic in the F30. Cons: - The F30 will not feel nearly as 'go-karty' as the BRZ does. I personally love the 'go-kart' feel. - If the F30 is coming up on it's warranty, you will probably make a small handful of visits to the shop for issues here and there. Don't know how reliable your BRZ is, but the FR-S is still a Toyota and has pretty spot-on reliability. - The F30 isn't necessarily customized the way you want it. A big part of driving a BMW is the fact that you get it customized the way you want it. Whether it's the color, dynamic handling, m-sport steering wheel....these are the things that make a lot of owners fall in love with their BMW. Hope this helps! |

Im only 20, so i do like the ocassional cornering at high speeds. But even from my brz i do like stance. And the bmw is a very classy car when lowered with some nice wheels.

Some advantages of the F30 are better gas mileage, optinal AWD which is second to subaru in my opinion, more cargo space, larger engine, faster acceleration, and all of the luxuries that come along with it. The cost to find a good F30 with a handful of options you'd want though, you'd probably still be looking at nearly 30K used if you're ok with used cars. Honestly, I love the BRZ and FRS and would love to own one as a secondary car. They do handle really nice, and at 200HP, they're peppy cars. I'd appreciate what you currently have and keep it. Especially for all of the mods you've done to it. If you tried trading that car in or selling it, you won't get any money back for all of the work and mods put into it. A dealer or individual will look at it and offer you what a 2013 BRZ is worth, not what a 2013 modded BRZ is worth. Keep it until you're done with school and land a kick ass well paying first job. |

Depends on how much you're willing to spend, and if you're keeping the car for long term.
Long term wise, you could tune a BRZ to be faster than a 328i, and have somewhat of good reliability. 328i can only be tuned up to a certain extent (335i stock only.) 335i can go up to stock M3+ And a small advice, don't stance (if you're talking about negative camber) your F30 (air suspension is fine) or you'll start going through tires every couple months or so, you have no idea how bad it was when I see F30s rolling around in negative camber so bad, you wonder how much they spend on tires. |

I wouldnt run more camber than on my brz. If i would switch to the f30 i would have up to 6k to do whatever id like. And thats about it. Im just thinking long term, will the f30 be as reliable as my brz when it gets to 100k?

I think your house is beautiful as is... Love the bars on the window, and the grass on the roof adds a classic touch that isn't found on many newer builds. Definitely keep your BRZ

daily purposes: f30 all day, more power, more refined, nicer suspension, creature comforts
toy purposes: 335 > brz on sheer power/tq fun and with the right suspension they handle decently well brz > 328 as the 328 doesn't have enough power to move its weight around (especially in xdrive form) and the brz has very well sorted suspension from the factory. source: owns f30 335xi and has driven my moms brz numerous times including at autox when racecar was broken. |

save your money...keep the brz and still be happy. Research & invest to let it grow...Reliability is a toss up, it depends how you maintain your car.

keep the brz, its an awesome car especially for your age. bmw's are a little bit more mature, enjoy your youth. invest the money you would have spent on the bmw. sounds contradictory but this is the best of both words. |

Have a 2016 320i (sport pack) I just picked up for my daily and also have my 2013 FR-S for a weekend car.
I absolutely have been loving my F30 for the refinement and ergonomics of the car. If I'm doing a 1000 mile road trip or commuting the answer is always the F30. With the M Sport suspension and M sport steering wheel it even does this all with a sporty flair. Now if I'm doing any modifying, canyon driving, (and hopefully track soon) it's the FRS. The aftermarket community is huge, parts are not too expensive, and the car looks great. Also the driving experience is much more involved. Also looks wise while I think my F30 in Mediterranean Blue looks great, the FRS being a small sports coupe still feels more special. Really both are great cars, it really comes down to if you prefer a nice refined all around package that's great around town and on the long hauls (with a good bit of torque), or something that has that great connected feeling but makes some comfort sacrifices to get there and requires you to ring out the engine to get moving. |
