First test 330d

Finally a first decent magazine test for the 330d (Touring).

http://www.auto-motor-und-sport.de/v...k-5721548.html

BMW eclipses both Merc and Audi and seems to be a clearly better balanced car than the E91 which had some obvious shortcomings.

1. biggest, most practical from the three.
2. road composure is best, when Audi is struggling with understeer, the BMW demonstrates muchos gustos for more.
3. with dynamic damping, combines best comfort and dynamics.
4. Fastest and most frugal engine. Splendid transmission.

Seems to be a real grown up car, makes you wonder whether a 5-series is necessary. They hint with terms like "dream estate".

Expensive, but Audi is even more expensive. Only negative point actually is the limited charging (weight) capacity.

Good job done BMW! Makes me wonder what kind of damage the 335d will be capable of!?

No. 1 on your list should be BEST LOOKING!!!

The 330d really packs a punch considering its frugality. It must be a blast to drive with the oodles of torque!

Nice quote from this test:
"seen the enormuous torque of the engine, the frugality is stunning".

I believe this will be the distinctive value proposition of the 30d engine. The other virtues of the F30 are already known but probably the RWD and balance are even more relevant when the engine has this massive fist. A 316d is not a bad car, but you could probably also enjoy it as a FWD.

A strong engine still puts all pieces together in a BMW I guess.
