comfort access trunk open

Hi all,
I searched, and didn't find a thread , if there is sorry if I may have missed it.

I can't seem to get the foot swipe trunk open to work. I've only gotten it to work 2x and failed about 20. Other key fob isn't near by... trunk isn't locked inside of glove compartment either.

Do i just have crappy foot technique?

This.

You need to point your toe upwards and kick directly in the middle, line up with the roundel. Move your foot up and pull back quickly.

First thing i tried... did it about 20x w/ no luck. CA even couldn't do it.

We then got it to work 2x on separate occasions w/ more of a side swipe but never with the toe up/roundel.

any one else have trouble doing it at first? not sure if its thing that just gets easier ...just picked up the car last night, and don't want to take it back in. but i swear i've tried tons of foot swipes.

When I first got my car, I could do it 1 out of 20 times. It was embarrassing. Once I figured out that toe needs to be up, I get it 100% of the time.

Maybe 6 inches? I just did it this morning. There is always a little hesitation, like you feel it may not have worked.

Toe up and make sure the backward motion of your leg is pronounced. At first I was kicking in but not pulling back fast enough.

I've found that the distance from you to the bumper is most important. Pretty sure it uses the parking sensors on the bumper to register the movement. That's why it only works when the doors are locked and the car is off. other wise all the asshole tailgaters may pop your trunk. lol

Anyway, you just have to make sure your kick is not inside the range of the center two sensors. That's what's done it for me. Prior to figuring that out, I failed miserable several times. lol

well, i thought the FOB is what prevents random people to pop the trunk....

i also don't have PDC,...so it must be that i have some crappy ass toe moves.

ill try again with more pointy toes. Seeing that the toe has to be pointed up must be just a small pretty sensitive sensor ... toeing up shortens the distance and must trigger it. more practice for me i guess.

I suspect technique is the problem. I can only get it to work every 4th or 5th try, but my special lady-friend can get it every time without fail.

The doors don't have to be locked to do the kick-trunk-open.

In my experience, if you stand too close to the bumper, you'll fail more often. Try stepping farther back before attempting the kick.

The only time I ever had trouble was when I had backed up close to a high sidewalk. The added height really threw the mechanism off.

it's technique...it's so odd, but once you get the hang of it, and get over how funny you look in the parking lot fake kicking your car (and people walking by wondering if you have some weird form of turrets), you'll love it.

+1 It is fun to walk up with both hands full and pop that baby open like that.

It's becoming a more common feature on cars now, so I don't worry/care about any strange looks.
