20 inch with runflat

Bought a slighly used 2016 340i m sport mppsk, can pick it up end of this month. The car has all options I was looking for, the only thing are the rims and tires, It has 20 inch 624 m sport rims with runflat tires. I test drove the car and didnt like the feel compared to the 18 inch Michelin sport 4 tires fitted under my 320i. Will it improve when I replace the rft tires with normal tires or shall I replace them with 18 or 19 inch rims.

The comfort will improve with normal tires!

RWD or xDrive?

You could get higher profile tires 245/35-20 front and 255/35-20 rear will fit, or with xDrive 245/35-20 square even though the wheels are staggered.

Higher profile tires will improve the comfort further.

You'd have no problem trading those for a set of 400m wheels, and you could probably get a bit of cash back.

It is RWD and has the adaptive suspension.

I really like the wheels but just didnt like the way they drive. I think I will give the normal slightly higher a try first, otherwise i trade them in for 18 or 19's.

Thanks

It will definitely improve with go-flats.
I changed myself from OEM Pirelli RFT to Continental Non-RFT on my 405M 20".

However it is still a harder ride compared to my 18" winter non-RFT.

But for me in summer, that's what I want.

20" wheel setup however is very tricky in bad road conditions. Much easier to get scratches on the rims or brake the rim in potholes.
But that's less a problem where I live.

I think they look great! Much more unique than the 18" options. If you can afford to try some type of Michelin Pilot tires, I'd try that. If you don't like those, however, you'd be out somewhere around $1k

Thanks.

Asked BMW to replace the tires with non rft tires and 35 height. Hope the old tires dont pass the minimum requirements for "premium selection". Waiting for an answer

I live in The Netherlands, we have one of the best road systems in the world.

except for F34's which have an o.d. of 27", all other F-series are spec'd with an o.d. of 26". increasing the aspect ratio 5% will fill the wheel well and give a better ride and fix the (shows fast) speedometer but it will also raise the total vehicle height 0.5" and somewhat ruins the looks of 20's w/low pros. in theory, taller final gearing at the pavement and a heavier tire should affect your acceleration. it will, however, accrue less miles on the odometer than actually traveled(sort of a good thing). it will be interesting to see if BMW will actually follow through with your request as i feel it puts the car too far off spec.

I recently replaced my Pirelli RFT 20's with normal tires. The ride improves dramatically. While it's still not what I'd call "soft", it's comfortable, quieter, and handles better.

I went from pzero runflat to michelin ps4s non-runflat and the difference is incredible. Despite the driving/direction is not as sharp as a runflat, I much prefer the michelin.
OEM size is 225/35/20 & 255/30/20 and I went for 235/35/20 & 265/30/20 (oem size were not available last year for the ps4s). The ride is much smoother but still very sporty, you'll not regret it.

Picked up the car last week but they fitted 20" inch rft under the car again

Will burn these tires and go for the ps4 235/35/20 & 265/30/20

265/30-20 is wider than recommended for the rear wheels, which are only 8.5" wide.

Can still be fitted, but not recommended by the tire manufacturer.
