Having smaller tires doesn't particularly help with snow traction, but narrower is in general better, but the main reason for going smaller is 1: Cost (smaller is cheaper) and 2: Potholes. If you live anywhere that has roads, chances are winter is pothole season. The more meat you have on the tire the better chances you have of surviving a trip to the bent rim repair shop.

Given how bad the roads are in NY even starting around this time of the year, I can't see any reason for having or wanting a big rim for the winter, esp going up to a 20"

Guys sorry ive been out of the game recently. Wondering if my old 17" ASA JR1 (or wtv they're called) that i had on my old 335 coupe would fit on a 2012 sedan. Are the offsets similar between the 2 cars?

Thx

Offsets are close, as long as they weren't something extreme you'll be fine. I have a set of 18x8's from a 2011 335 on my F30, believe they're ET37, fit fine.

Rick955 & PeteNJ. nice setup. i'm actually thinking of the same set up. So how is the fit. Not rubbing or anything on bumpy roads? No spacers required at all? Just wanted to check before I make a decision. thanks!

Same combo here - no issues whatsoever, and the wheels are the correct offset to not need spacers. The only time you need to worry about rubbing is when you start trying to cram more rubber than intended, or start slamming your suspension.

Rick, I'm new to this forum and not sure I've figured out how to post correctly. I left this question on another older thread. So not sure it will be seen.

Question - what is the finish on you i08s - machined or straight anthracite? I'd like them for my car.

When I ordered my F30 335i M-Sport, I opted for the staggered setup with all-season tires. I was convinced that this combination was not possible, but my SA said he could pull it off.

However, when my car arrived, it had the staggered setup (which was my first priority) and summer tires.

To make amends for the gaffe (BMW accepted the original order calling for staggered 18" wheels with all-season tires), BMW agreed to buy me a dedicated set of winter tires/wheels! Not only did BMW pay for the tires/wheels, but they also agreed to cover the expenses associated with switching out the tires over the course of the lease (3 years).

Here is the winter tire/wheel combination BMW provided me:

Thanks to Rick955 and PeteNJ for pushing me over the edge to get the Elbrus I08 wheels. Yes, I'm a copycat but who cares, the wheels look great.

The car configurator on tirerack.com do not do the wheels justice (it's a section of the site that superimposes the wheel over a F30 BMW). That's why when I finally saw actual photos, I changed my mind and saved a couple of bucks too.

BTW, great to hear about your fortunate situation ybbiz34 plus, nice wheels.

I had problems with my winter wheels, I bought the SvF Performance Monza 18" wheels and they dont fit my car. When mounted the rims scratches the brake calipers . I also have the M-sport brakes. Now I need to find some other Wheels, maybe AEZ Antigua or Valencia.

Yeah no kidding. I couldn't be more appreciative of the way both my SA and BMW handled this situation for me.

On a side note: There are some absolutely stunning winter setups ITT.
