xenon retrofit costly!

I went to the dealer today and asked how can I get a xenon replacement through them, each headlight needs to be replaced for $1200 in addition to the adaptive headlight system fixation, when I asked for the light bulbs only to be changed to xenon they said that some of the parts needed to do that such as the ignitor is not even available and if so it would cost $1500 to be replaced, so guys just in case think twice before ordering the car that u absolutely don't need the xenon coz it's only $900 extra

I absolutely agree with you. There's no point opting out of Xenons. Might as well spend a little more now and save in the future!

Good post!

Xenons make a huge difference, one of the reasons why I upgraded from 328 to 335 was that xenons come standard on the 335.

I could live without the Xenons, but I would miss those LED rings too much if I opted out!

Can it actually be retrofitted at all? I mean the whole oem adaptive system rather than just some aftermkt bulbs.

In Canada, the xenons are standard on all 328i and 335i models. For the 320i, the Xenon option is $1200 I believe.

If you guys in the states can get it for $900 more, that's definitely not something to cheap out on.

It will always cost you more to upgrade an optional extra later. Hasn't been any different for the E9x's or E46's

For the previous model (e90) BMW offers a Xenon retrofit kit. It's not very costly, around $1000 or so. At least there is a solution to not have to live with the xenon remorse all of the car's life

They also offered a retrofit kit for the E60, but they disappeared post-LCI (both E60/90).
I think BMW no longer offered those kits for newer cars as there isn't one available for any of the F-series cars even tho some have been in production for quite some time.

Nope, F10 5er doesn't have xenons as standard in all markets for all models. F-series also includes F20 1er & F25 x3, both have as standard halogens esp in Europe.

Nope, the only retrofits available officially are for the E90 & E60, both pre-LCI. Other than those they're not officially sanctioned by BMW.

Unfortunately for Europe & other countries that use European homologation these aftermarket stuff are illegal cos they don't have automatic levelling.
