Thanks for the feedback guys.

Power increase is not huge but the sound upgrade is definitely worth it

I'm new to the N55 -- I have a 2011 (E70) X5. I was planning to add the Stage 1 (no other mods). Do the performance results listed early in this thread (jerky shifts in the 2-3K range, fade closer to red line) apply to that early N55? Is there a noticeable difference in pull in daily-driver setting? MPG hit? Thanks.

F80Boost: With no other mods? I wasn't planning to change intake or dp or anything physical -- jb4 is still the better investment? Thanks.

Yup , i just installed the JB4 on my 435i & the blutooth from BMS.

Its worth it, u can monitor the tune, different settings, change maps, and its a little more...... And if u want to expand later, your good to go..... 100% say do JB4 & bluetooth, no doubts whatssoever......
JB no expandability afterwards....

Get jb4 as f80boost said. Just make sure you running the right map. If you don't have any other mods just use map1. For map2 just need intake, DP, CP and ready to roll.

Thanks -- I will look more closely at JB4. I hadn't considered it very seriously because I was only changing software with no physical mods and thought that for this engine Stage 1 and JB4-without-other-mods gave about the same results. I will now take another look -- thanks.

All that Map 2 requires is DP..intake really is not required at all. CP is preventative for breakage of stock pipe due to increased boost.

Thumbs up for the bms stage 1. Literally 2 minutes to install. Noticeable increase in performance from the get go. Zero changes in drivability that I've noticed.

+1

The stage1 should maintain all the OEM drivability as its an additive tune, so it adds to the stock power band.

Does the Stage1 cause rough shifts on an A/T during casual driving? I thought I read that somewhere...

Can boost levels be increased on the Stage1?

Does the Stage1 require any sort of break-in period? Or is it an instant boost in power right after install?

Any reason to choose the JB4 over the Stage1 on a completely stock 2015 F32 435i? (not planning any additional upgrades in the foreseeable future)

Stage 1 does not cause rough shifts

boost level cannot be increased with stage 1

No need for break in period, it will need couple pulls to adjust and get you max power

Power is the same on stock car. Jb4 will give you additional features like code reading deleting, datalogging, max boost by gear,etc...

Just wanted to chime in and add positive feedback for the Stage 1. I debated for a while whether to go Stage 1 or JB4 considering some of the responses I've read about different powerbands between the two, jerky shifting, etc. and I'm not planning on any other mods to my car. I bought the Stage 1 after getting feedback and reassurance from Burger that there was no difference in the two other than additional features as has been pointed out throughout this thread. I liked that it was painless to get in and out, and wasn't interested in wasting $150 if there was no benefit to the JB4.

I installed the Stage 1 in less than 10 minutes after spending maybe 5 minutes researching what I needed to do. Disconnected the battery, pulled the covers, hooked up the 2 connectors (TMAP/MAP) and hid the Stage 1 under the compartment on the passenger side. Boom, done. Fired up the car before putting everything back together and all was good.

As a review on the power changes, I'm extremely happy after having driven about 75 miles after putting it in. I've had the car for a year and am very familiar with the stock power. If you're expecting a "wow!" factor you should probably look at JB4 +other mods and/or a Pure turbo upgrade. The performance increase is definitely there, but to me it was a bit deceptive at first because of how it's delivered. I'm not sure how to describe it, but in a nutshell when in Sport+ it's somewhere between stock Comfort on steroids and Sport+ modes in delivery. It feels like what Sport+ should have been from the factory - very smooth where to me Sport+ was for lack of a better term "peaky" and now has much better midrange. I guess this is what's demonstrated in the dyno chart where midrange is much higher than stock for much of the RPM range, and you can definitely feel the difference. I don't have measurements of 0-60 or dyno charts to back up that difference, but in hindsight I'd spend my $400 again in a heartbeat so I guess that's all that really matters. As far as shifting or smoothness goes, I didn't notice anything negative at all and would actually say it's better after the Stage 1. And that's after driving in Atlanta traffic where lots of shifting/stopping/starting were required (I have an auto)

Hope that helps anyone that's on the fence between the two, or with expectations for the Stage 1 tune.

I plan on adding a intake and maybe an exhaust but thats it. I only use 93.

Still under warranty. Would you go with the stage 1 or JB4?

If you're going intake and catback only, you probably don't need the JB4, unless you want the extra features (OBDII, Bluetooth, code reading/clearing, CANFLAP, etc).

If changing the downpipe, then JB4 is probably the way to go.

I asked this question recently and I got one response saying no. I'd like to hear from others if anybody has passed OBD-II inspection with just JB4 + catless DP.

It depends on what kind of inspection but pretty much the answer is NO, as the JB4 doesn't allow for readiness to be reached, so this instantly fails an OBD based inspection.

Hi Guys:

After reading the posts on this thread, I am finding mixed answers on whether the boost can be increased or not on the JB Stage 1. From what I understand, depending on the version of JB stage 1 you have, you may be able to adjust the boost and data log.

Am I understanding this correctly?

Thanks.
