Can't wait for someone to try out the Dinan tune and compare it to the JB4.

This was meant to be posted over in this thread last night, but alas. Link to the power chart in case you were interested.

Thank you for any information you can give me.
I am hoping to get the exhaust at the same time as the Tune.
Sorry to be a pain but anxious for the upgrade.

The 428i and the majority of N20 vehicles use an electronic wastegate as opposed to the mechanical wastegate version we just released. That version is in development and will be released in the near future (couple weeks at most).

I'm definatly in on both the Exhaust and the Tune for the 428.
Thank you for the prompt response. I have contacted my local Dinan Dealer in
Sewickley Pa for the install when it is available.
Ordering the Exhaust now and the Tune in a couple weeks when it comes out.

Thanks again for the information.

Looking at some you tube videos, the dinan exhuast tips looks longer than the stock ones? or is it just me?

Very interesting. Looking forward to details on the electronic waste gate version. 312/330 are pretty impressive.

Yes/no. It can be technically transferred but chances are only certain elements of the system will work. Dinantronics consists of 3 elements; the dinan ecu, the harness, and software.

Most likely the ecu will be transferable as that is essentially the base framework with no ties to a specific platform. A generation or two down the line of bmw's may not be compatible as I can't predict the future of plug types and engines but in general terms the ecu should be transferable.

The harness is questionable as depending on the engine, typically the harness varies. A 328 harness is different from a 335 harness which is different from a 550 harness which is different than a m3 harness for example. The generation issue like with the ecu could also come into play with the harness since plugs/receptacles may change down the line.

The software almost always will never be transferable. A f30 328i mechanical waste gate tune/ software will only work with that car. So unless you change vehicles to the same thing you had before it is not transferrable. The other thing to consider is the warranty is tied to the software and it's associated vin so if that was important regardless of if it was the same vehicle, new software would need to be purchased.

That's a great answer on the transferability issue on a lease.
It makes sense.
Thanks for the continuing updates....

So this gives 312/330 while the MPPK for 335i gives 320/332.

335 with mppk hits 0-60 in 4.8s. 328 with JB4 map 1 which claims 270whp/300wtq can't hit 0-60 even in 5.0. Actually I am curious how this tune turns out.

The Dinan numbers look much better than other tunes because (for whatever reason) their stock numbers are very high: 268/287. Based on their data the Dinan tune adds 44hp, 43 trq - same as all the other stage 1 piggy backs out there.

Comparing the BMW rated numbers of 240/260 with their readout of 312/330 is about as misleading as it gets without technically lying. This tune does not give you +72hp/+70trq, and does not buy you 335 mppk engine power (it sure would be nice if it did).

I'm not trying to hit on Dinan here - the warranty they offer adds value and I am potentially interested in buying it. The way they present the numbers though is worryingly shady.

Peak horsepower is just one variable and a small picture of the performance envelope for any motor. The N20 boosts to such a power level much earlier in the rev band, and then tapers off as it runs out of breath. The N55 will suffer the same way but to a lesser extent, and the shape of these power curves will favor acceleration in the N55 car.

Even with turbo motors, there is ultimately no replacement for displacement with all else equal...

All that being said, 0-60 is a pretty poor representation of performance, especially with so many possible differences in the nature of those runs.

Agree, I would hope for better transparency from Dinan. 268/287 is, I assume, an approximate crank power figure taken from the stock dyno run - we all know these motors are underrated from the factory, so this is not a big deal, and at least they aren't claiming a delta from 240 in their "gain" numbers on the chart. This and the way they said "piggybacks are bad" only to release their own piggyback solution is not helping their image, at least in my mind.

By the way Dinan, I went to your F30 335i tuner page to compare the dyno charts and it's showing the 328i chart image FYI.

@Dinan_Engineering,

I have some queries, how can I reach you through email?

Basically, I am based in Singapore, so I do not suppose your warranty covers for me. If I do not need the warranty, does the price change?
Or can I work out something for the warranty to be included?

What is the return policy like if it does not turn out to be the product that I would expect (given the figures on the website).
