Real world L/km here in Australia UPDATED: Solved!

So I've seen similar threads in the US parts of the forum...but the numbers they're getting are nothing like mine.

I've only really done city driving in the last 6 months admittedly, but the comp shows my average as 14.9L/km. That's close to double what some have posted and nearly double what I got in my GTi.

Is this what you're getting as well?

UPDATE
So I reset my mileage (kilometerage?...lets just call it consumption) computer and did a few experiments and I think I have worked this out.

The problem is (as it so often is in life) ASS.
Resetting my computer, I had all new data so I can see the average consumption changing rapidly (yes, average, not real-time consumption). It seems the BMW computer is programmed to work with ASS, as opposed to the way I would think about it, which is only performing the calculation while the car is moving.

So, with ASS disabled (as I usually drive) and the engine idling but at a complete stop, the average consumption (in Kms/L) was still climbing, and climbing rapidly! This is (obviously) because even at idle, not moving at all is horrible consumption.

With ASS enabled and, therefore, the engine off when stopped in traffic consumption holds at a moderate level (I got down to 10km/L even in a short drive).

Although I see this is technically accurate, it is not the way I think about consumption, and it does still seem inaccurate the rate at which consumption moves upwards when you are just sitting and idling.

I'm fairly certain that me not using ASS is what gave me these very high consumption numbers.

In any case, this is still very high based on BMW's advertised figures and what I would expect based on my driving.

Mine is averaging about 10.1 L/100km.

I drive primarily around in Sports+/Sports but do have about 30% highway driving where I'd switch to Comfort and use cruise control.

Best i've had for one trip with minimal suburban driving was 5.9L/100km for the entire trip from Brisbane to the Gold Coast.

I get 9.8 L/100 km, mixed urban and highway driving 90% sport mode. Still no.where near the values said by BMW.

Around 550-600 km a tank I believe however I haven't let it drop too low, I generally refuel it before the Warning appears.

That doesn't sound right. I was getting around 10L in my 335i without even really trying.

BTW, cleared my inbox Carlos if you want to resend that last PM.

im getting between 9.3 and 9.8 L/100km. That is a fair mix between highway and suburban and i probably drive with a heavy foot 30-40% of the time.

I tried to drive in eco pro to see what i would get and it was like 9l/100km. Another time I drove like a grandma in comfort and sport and I got low 8's. It goes to show it really depends on your driving habit

Ok, so given how high mine is, am I flogging it (which doesn't sound right to me) or is there something else going on???

I get around 420kms per tank.

I drove mine pretty hard on the first tank, mix of freway and stop start and still managed just over 600klms.

Are you doing any light cruise or just stop start traffic?

I'm getting about 6.8 - 7 L/100km mostly in comfort and about 80% highway driving. I usually put it in Eco when on the highway. I only occasionally plant it in sports. I have the 6sp manual and it changes so smoothly in comfort. I have a 428 GC.

8.4 with a mix of highway and urban. I usually have it in Sport and drive a 328i.

If you live in a hilly area that will make a difference over a mainly flat one too.

I think you and I share the same right foot

I get about the same, I'll take a photo of the consumption history next time I'm in the car. I don't really hold back and leave in sport when ever I remember. I am truly impressed how well it holds gear and simulates a manual.

On the highway - I get much closer to 7 - which I'm pretty happy with..

10.4l per 100km in an F30 335i ... that's from about 7100km of driving. A mix of city and highway, but never holding back when the opportunity presents.

If you're getting 14+ in a 328i then I dip my hat to you

I'm averaging 8.2l over 35k.

90% highway and 90% in comfort. Tbh I was expecting better given my Sunday driving as well as mostly highway and no traffic.

getting about 5.8/100km on average

goes up to around 7-8 if driven hard, and down to about 4-5 if driven without braking in corners and accelerating slowly.
