New 320i vs used 335i '13 ?? Help
Hey everyone,
I'm currently in the market for an F30 BMW. My two options are the following: - A brand new, well spec'd 2015 320i Luxury Line, with leather electrical seats, full navigation system (the larger screen + touch pad) and Xenon lights. - A used 2013 335i sport line, did 20,000 KM (12,500 Miles), also well equipped and it has the sports transmission with paddle shifters. It has an after market BORLA ATAK exhaust system as well as the M-sport front & rear bumpers, side skirts and the spoiler. The 335i is about $2000 more, and in my country there is an additional tax for the bigger engine per year (an additional $2,000 per year over the 320i). I'm more inclined to used 335i, but I'd appreciate your input in this. Thank you! EDIT: Also, is that 20K KMs a lot for a used car? should I take that into consideration while I'm making the purchase? Last edited by n0necares; 12-25-2014 at 04:17 PM.. |

I side with you entirely on this one. 335 all the way. It is an entirely different type of experience drive wise compared to the 320i especially considering the addition of the sport transmission in the 335i.
The main benefit to the 320i is gas mileage.

335 with only one exception, that $2000/yr tax....sheeeesh
12,000 miles is on par what normal people drive in one year so, no big deal there.

Sorry the grin on your face with the 335 will be hard to wipe off and 12000 is nothing on that engine.

I would definitely much prefer the 335i. The driving experience is what it's meant to be and will be far superior to the 320i. As long as it still have the original warranty, or it is a CPO car, I don't think you have much to worry about. And that low mileage is pretty decent as well.

You'll just never know if the car was messed up and unloaded. My car had the wheels stolen and $10k in damage done to it at 6k miles, my wife's car had a guy walk into the fender and put a dent in it with a piece of furniture when it was three weeks. You'd absolutely never know something happened to either, but there you go. I'm always suspicious when someone is willing to unload something so quick and take an enormous hit. Also depends on your country, can you use the 335's power? When I lived in Japan you sure couldn't between 50 kph speedlimits, two lane roads, blind approaches, and cameras every kilometer on the tollway so having anything with power there was a complete waste. Not sure if your country is the same but it's something to consider. |

I'd get a car proof on anything selling below market. It could be a great deal or the beginning of a long ordeal. A friend picked up a good condition 2008 135i for 16K here in Canada, which, at first seemed to be a pretty good deal. Two turbos, 2 coil packs, 6 spark plugs, and now an injector clean, well . . . that used car cost a lot more than 16k. He got a pretty good deal on parts but the time and aggravation to resolve recurring problems have been a real downer. He's patient but even still.
But if the 335i checks out, get it. I have a 320i. I love the car but I'm looking at 335i for 2016/2017 when my lease is up. The smooth 6 and that extra 100+ horses, it's awesome. |

I'd go for the 335i too, but only with two conditions:
- The car is sold by a BMW dealer, with warranty; - I'd have the car checked by a third-party unbiased organization. Here in the Netherlands we have multiple options for such check-ups, including a couple of well respected companies. Such checks cost €300-400, but the car gets checked thoroughly. Including damage history! |

I'd be very cautious of the 335 not because it's used but because of the modifications. Also if the BMW dealer is discounting it significantly it likely isn't CPO eligible because of the modifications. Depending on what's been done to it They may have even voided the remainder of the factory warranty.
If it's strictly a displacement tax do they sell the 328 in your market? With a few add ons they aren't far off the performance of a stock 335.

My 335i has done 27,000km and it still looks brand new. As long as you can be confident of its provenance, I'd pick a used 335i over a new 320i any day.

320 with all of those options will be great. Put it un sport mode and you have great torque.
Getting 335 is a waste of money to me. Unless you live in Germany, the extra hp is just too tempting to get a ticket. |
