for those complaining about snow....are your cars X-drives?
I have a non X-drive with Michelin AS3+ and it does slip but I dont really drive it much in the snow anyway. |

I just took my A/S 3+'s off and put my Summer's back on. I grew up in SW Michigan, and drove through gobs of snow every winter until my late 20's. We had more snow in a single hit here in Portland this year than we've had in a very long time so I got to see what the Michellins could do. After a couple of days in serious-for-Portland snow, I would call them "good enough" for UHP All Seasons. I wasn't deeply impressed, but as long as I was careful on the throttle and let my old, rusty instincts take over they were dandy.
That being said, the ancient RWD and FWD cars I had back in the 80's and 90's were not the same beasts as my AWD 340. Light Japanese FWD cars with skinny tires are easy to drive in the snow (unless you are foolish enough to stop on a hill...or forced to) and 70's American RWD boats are utterly evil in the snow (which is what I learned on...nothing else has ever seemed too difficult in the snow). I never drove a car with this much power on snow in the old days, and that makes a huge difference. The cars I owned back then didn't HAVE enough power to make snow driving worse...and in most circumstances, having a ton of power to put down does not help you in the snow. The only real issues I had were when I wasn't careful enough on the throttle. The Michellin's were not good enough to cover for mistakes. I don't know if the DWS06's would have been better but the A/S 3+ was only good as long as I was. |

Any more experience with the A/S 3+ in the snow vs. DWS06? I want to know which is best in the snow. I've had many years with the DWS, but was wanting to try something else, especially with Michelin's claim that they have improved the snow handling with their 3+.

https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=216 I ended up buying a used set of A/S 3s off another forum member as the deal was pretty good. They have been a big improvement over the stock run flats, but I have yet to compare them to anything else on this chassis. We will see what happens when I use these up.

Comp 2
Has anyone tried the BFGoodrich G-force Comp2 A/S tires yet? I have run them on other cars and they perform quite well, have good tread wear life, and are reasonably priced.
I work with racing/driving instructors who have done tire testing for Michelin, BFG, and other manufactures, and they all have high praise for the Comp2 tires. |

Back when I lived in NE Ohio, with about 90" of snow per year, I used the Conti DWS thru the winter and liked them. But this was on Acura FWD. On TireRack, looks like DWS are rated slightly better for snow, while A/S3 are rated slightly better for ice. Fairly equal overall... |

I'm likely going to try the A/S 3+, but waiting for their rebate in the fall.
Any others, please chime in on the A/S 3+ in winter conditions. I guess I'm hesitant b/c of how bad the previous generation were in the snow. DWS06 are a sure bet for the winter, but if the Michelins A/S 3+ are on par w/the DWS06, I'd rather give the Michelins a try, especially given their better dry/steering response.

I had the as3 on mine. I'm rwd and had no problem with Missouri weather as my daily driver. Snow is no issue. We had some bad freezing rain which was a little sketch but paired with the excellent traction control I was able to manage.
