Park Assist
I have many questions after buying my F31 330D Auto on Friday, so I've decided to ask them one by one in order to simplify the topics being discussions.
When I select reverse and my reversing camera comes on, my iDrive shows an option for Park Assist. Do I actually have a self parking feature or is it for something else?

Do you need the surround view for Park assist Plus ?
Park assist, you just need the sensors in the bumpers and a rear view camera. Sorry if I’m wrong. Last edited by Isow; 05-27-2018 at 03:20 PM.. |

I had park assist on my old 2014 f31, it didn’t have surround view.
That said, it’s shit. I can park quicker and better myself! (Same goes for parallel and bay park assist on wifeys Octavia) |

In this case the manual was missing, I've ordered a replacement, but it doesn't appear to be listed in iDrive either. I'm not being lazy, I'm just asking if anyone knows as I've tried to sort it myself before asking on here.

Thanks. I looked at a few videos but they came up with the full park assist feature. I'll have another search for some on parallel parking.

Earlier F30’s could just do parallel park, just drive slowly past parked cars and it will let you know when it finds a space you can park in.
It is pretty poor though, a) because it only does the steering, you have to do the accelerator, brake and gears, and b) because it’s slow and parks about a foot away from the kerb! |

You should have a button next to the gear stick that activates it you don’t need to select reverse. You can just drive slowly, hit the button and it will detect space size and type of parking. You will have to control speed an gears - how else would it go forward and back? It will also get you in spaces that are hard to get out of. Mine parks a few inches from the curb. It does the job very well. However, I tend not to use it as I can park just as quick without it. |

You can get the BMW Drivers Guide app which will allow you to view the manual on your phone or tablet

If you want to park in a parallel bay on the opposite side if the road remember to indicate and it will detect spaces on that side.
Only had an issue ending up too far away from the kerb if the cars its using to measure from are parked like that.

I have it and it's a bit long winded, I usually just dip the near side mirror and do it myself, however when I have used it I found it to park very accurately both for bay and parallel.
The one thing I have struggled with is it detecting spaces on the far side, always seems to be beyond the reach of the sensors so doesn't detect the space. |

Thanks guys, I'll give that a go.
When I press the parking button in Drive the Park Assist option enables & disables the side sensors. Not tried it on a road yet as I need to find somewhere quiet and suitable first.

Finally got round to testing it today. The kids are impressed and now that my car is possessed
Basically just pressed the parking button & went for a drive. The car said that the first space was too small. On the 2nd space it asked me to select reverse and just keep braking until the manoeuvre was complete. It's a strange experience, but one hell of a party trick

Having had my car since oct last year i had no idea it did this!!!
Had a play at the work car park... works suprisingly well.... bit long winded that I doubt i need to use it properly... but very clever. |

Agree that it's pointless, any half decent driver should be able to park more accurately.
Drive past the space whilst indicating, select reverse and press the i-Drive controller when Park Assist is highlighted (mine is an earlier model, parallel only) then use the accel. and brakes yourself. As mentioned, great for showing off but I've never used it in the car on my own as I don't trust it and the steering can be quite violent! |
