Poor wiper lifting design
Who else's F30 has the problem of the driver's side windscreen wiper arm rubbing along the back edge of the hood when you lift it off the windscreen?
Please note, I place the wipers in the 'lift off windscreen' mode first. Then I gently lift each arm up and away. The arm assembly literally touches the hood and has caused paint damage. Who allowed such a stupid design and assembly to pass through BMW's 'rigorous' checks? Looks like it fell through the cracks as I'm my opinion, it wasn't checked at all. Perhaps your car's arm has some clearance from the hood. Can you please let me know. Thanks.

Have noticed his as well when washing the car... definitely intended... sort of annoying, still haven't read how to lift it up properly though

It's a strange design. I imagine there will be quite a few people scratching the backs of their hoods. Probably a few detailers scratching the backs of their customer's hoods as well.
I still haven't read the procedure either .

I switch on ignition without starting the car. I then switch it off. This leaves the car with power available to some functions, including the wipers.
Lift & hold wiper lever past all click points till it won't move up any further. Hold in place till the wipers sweep across the windscreen. They will sweep twice. Also, be mindful of frosted/iced wiper blades where and when applicable. Don't attempt to do this with wipers in such condition. Once the wipers sweep across, they will stop in the vertical position, so you can fold them back off the windscreen. Once finished. lower each blade to the windscreen, turn on ignition (without starting engine) and press down once on the lever. Wipers return to resting position at bottom of windscreen.

Or lift them about 10mm and wash under them.

Update 03/01/13,
Stillwell Service Manager and I checked another F30 and found my driver's side wiper sits higher in the off/rest position at the bottom of the window and wipes wider than it should. This had a permanent impact on the vertical lift off position. It sits too far across from the vertical position. As I stood and waited, the Service guy set up an enquiry to BMW Australia, which will be sent to the factory for advice on rectification. It may be a software adjustment or perhaps a re-positioning of the wiper. Will take a few days for an answer. Service guy took photos of the problem for inspection. Very professional service.
