The 2016 build you own is up on the bmwusa site.
And, for the 340i it shows 'black dakota' leather as a $0 option when you get Msport.

Wait? Is this correct?
I saw this on the test build site, but indications were that it was incorrect.
I'm paying $1450 more to get red leather, which is basically the same quality as black dakota except it's red.
If black dakota is free with Msport, then I've got a big issue with BMW for doing this.

I would gladly take black leather for free vs $1450 for red leather.
I have black leather in my 335i right now and had to pay extra for that as well.

My order for a 2016 340i is in and my car is waiting to get to the US.
But this leather seat question is not sitting well if it's true.

Anyone out there order now to verify if black dakota leather is a free option with Msport in a 2016 340i?

i dont think its free...i got black sensatec because they said the black leather was 1450 extra for my 340 msport

I was just on bmwusa.com and it shows Black Dakota leather is free with M sport Package.... But not 100% sure maybe a glitch on the website??

No, it's not free, there is a glitch in the system. I too thought the same thing but later confirmed with my CA and also with the 2016 3 series order guide that this is not a free option..Also from my understanding the only black leather available is black leather w/oysters stitching which shows as a $1450 charge on the BYO site and order guide.

I went with the black BMW Sensatec leatherette.

I've had the order sheet since it came out and no word for the "free" leather.
Then the beat build site showed the black dakota at no cost for Msport pkg.
I and others said "glitch" as well and my SA confirmed on the order form.

But, the actual build for 2016 is now up on the bmwusa.com and the 340i Msport pkg shows that plain blk dakota is a no charge option.
From a legal sale point of view this can be viewed as a 'bait and switch' as it clearly shows that plain black dakota is a no cost option with Msport.
BMW needs to address this asap.


I contacted bmwusa and told them about this. The very nice lady went through a build on line as well and verified that the black dakota was coming up with no charge.
She or course has no answer but say she would send this issue up asap.
I asked to be notified once there is a definitive answer. She apologized and said she would note my request for a follow up, but said that that might not likely happen.
That's not good.
We ended the conversation, but she didn't take my name, so basically no follow up anyway.

one of the forums has a picture of someones invoice who ordered black dakota leather on a 340 msport and there is definitely a charge for 1450

Leather, except for black dakota, is shown as a $1450 option.
The other leathers listed are all "....with stitching....." and show a $1450 cost.

The item that is shown with no cost is strictly the black dakota leather in the "Msport" package section.
By default senstec is checked, but the black dakota is right under it.
Check the black dakota leather option, showing no additional cost, and the total price in the upper right will show black dakota leather with $0.

I reported this to bmwusa.com and it's still there.
