Lexus's desperate comparison vid of the 435 vs RC350
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com They show the 435 almost as much as the RC, and when shown side by side the RC's grill looks even more awkward. Not sure what they were thinking when they made this Lexus RC350 vs BMW 435i https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vWurHk_31g4 Last edited by LDSM; 01-11-2015 at 12:19 AM.. |

Powertrain advantages: makes me laugh. If Matrix were here, he'd laugh too.

As a long time BMW fan and Lexus-dismisser, I found the video to be very informative. If I were in the market for a sports coupe, and Lexus offered a manual transmission, I would absolutely consider the Lexus after watching this video. Naturally aspirated? Standard non-runflats? Much premium feeling interior (slide temp control, touch activated dome lights, mousepad navigation, ...)? Cornering G sensors, to hold gears longer while cornering? Lexus LFA technology trickle down? Yes, yes and yes!
I find the looks un-objectionable. I actually like the new Lexus design language, but prefer the more conventional BMW design if I have to live with it everyday. But again, not a deal breaker. I like the design. It all comes down to driving dynamics. If Lexus can compete on that, they have a very bright future. Which should not be that hard, as BMW have been conceding a bit much lately, in that department. |

They make stunning interiors and engines but I like the exterior of the 435 and the ability to do engine tune for more power. The AI fascinates me though!

She said things that are correct though, 306hp>300hp. Comparatively equipped the RC is much much cheaper. Bmw will not be able to sue Lexus for anything since there are no misrepresentations here.
However we know better

The price points are misleading unless I'm missing something.
M Sport....46,925 base (57,225 as tested) F Sport.....47,700 base (55,700 as tested) per C&D

That is true and casual rubes watching the ad can be taken in. The reality however, is that BMW historically under rates their engines by a notable amount. Look at almost any magazine road test of a BMW with "less" advertised HP than a competitor and the Bimmer is almost always faster. We can expect the same when the new B48/58 engines are introduced (long thread on this elsewhere). No doubt BMW will rate them higher than the N20/55 engines they are replacing, but will likely not actually list them at their true values. Cadillac, in particular, seems to strain to get every HP they can extract from their motors into the advertising sheets, yet they don't perform any better than BMWs with much less advertised HP.

The Toyota is cheaper than a BMW! Who would have thought?
The goods thing about the Lexus is that once inside it, you can't see that rediculous and ugly grill! |

Until now i haven't seen such a detailed comparison of the two cars but now that i have i gave to admit my impression of the new Lexus is that it's new design is terrible. The BMW looks so balanced, modern, refined. The rear of the lexus looks good but the front looks like a gigantic cheese grater. Bold design? Ahh.... how about Big Mistake?
And the comment on the cockpit? 'You know you are in sports car' Really? I didn't see a Porche in that video. Ever since someone published a stat that said the average age of a Toyota buyer is now 60 they're having some sort of midlife crisis over there. Freaking out they introduced the RC, dropped the FRS, and want to revive the Supra. Just stick to safe, reliable, boring cars. The geriatric market is getting bigger and Toyota makes the right cars for it. |

To anyone concerned about 'stats' remember you can't drive a spec sheet and you won't turn to the product brochure to comfort you when you realised you bought a boring car |

About 80% of 3 series that I see are driven by housewives/young girls. Just sayin....... Who cares who drives Lexus (not Toyota) or any other brand. If you like it buy it. Porsche has an "S" in it. |
