For my info: re the dealer registering the car, when you say that's when "they got it" does that mean the car is actually on their premises then? My dealer is very keen so I'm just interested to know what the usual process is.
Once the car "lands in the uk"is when they can register it, then it still can take weeks to get to you.
This is what they say is "consigned"

OK thanks John. No wonder he was so pleased to see my number plate retention cert then...

I think that is what they mean. But why should I want them to register it any earlier than I am collecting it? I know for them it is all about them hitting their month's number.

I assume also I'd need to insure it for them to tax it? Even if that is with the 7 days free insurance lots of garages offer.

It doesn't quite work like that for a dealership. For an individual to tax and register a car, you need insurance (and MoT if applicable) but for a dealership, they don't need to do that. They register directly with the DVLA online services and do a similar thing with tax discs and write out their own discs. You'll find girls in the admin office have a locked cupboard with a tonne of unwritten tax discs in and they just use one of those

I've told my dealer not to tax the car before Saturday as I don't want to lose a month on the tax (assuming the car is consigned on time).

I think that's a perfectly reasonable request

They have thought of that! Here's the email I got

Once it arrives in the UK, I can sort out the paperwork in advance of it arriving and get it turned around as quickly as possible.

I would look to have the vehicle registered by 30th November, taxed for a year and a week, so you get the full benefit of the road fund licence. Thereafter, if it hasn't arrived by the 30th, we would need to push it through the workshop and then valet the car readyf for Handover.

Apparently because mine is £0 tax for the first year (due to low CO2) they can't tax it for anything other than a year... Not sure if this is accurate or not but as long as they give me a Nov 13 tax disc that's all good either way

We are using the same dealer aren't we Gordon? Do you know where you car is now? I replied to the email saying I didn't want it registered until I can actually pick it up.

No mate, I changed order, placed it with my local.

My car is en route expected at dealership later this week, but unlikely to be ready for collection until early next week. I'm up north on business Mon/Tues

I am pushing for December registration.....looks better than November to me

How about your car? What's the ETA?

It's at the port apparently and should be in the UK this week so I'll hopefully pick it up next week sometime as long as there are no delays.

Never knew that, I thought CO2 needed to be class D or lower (130g/km max), I thought the 330D was 135 (and class E?).

That's lease companies for you........I believe you have to have a Phd in Bullsh1tting to get a job at one of those companies. Either that or no clue how a Gregorian calender works.
